[edit] Biography

Mark Mullaney (Mark Alan Mullaney) was born on April 30, 1953 in Denver, Colorado. After going to high school at George Washington (Denver, CO), Mullaney attended Colorado State University. Mullaney made his professional debut in the NFL in 1975 with the Minnesota Vikings. He played for the Minnesota Vikings for his entire 12 year career.

Mark was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1st round (25th overall) of the 1975 NFL Draft. A 6'6", 246 lbs. defensive end from Colorado State University, Mullaney played in 12 NFL seasons from 1975-1986 for the Vikings and is 9th on the all time sack list with 41 1/2. Mullaney also holds a place in NFL history as the first NFL Player to wear a helmet shield (visor) on his face mask, after suffering an eye injury in 1984. In 1986 Mullaney switched to a dark tinted shield, the first player to wear this as well. Dennis Ryan, the Vikings long time equipment manager, helped Mullaney create the shield(s).
