Sure Dad isn't going to turn over in his grave? ``We are convinced that it is the appropriate next step to re-energizing Chicago hockey fans and creating new fans, Rocky said. ``Likewise, we are pleased that our partners and sponsors have assured us that, if the future of the Blackhawks includes televised home games, they are eager to be participants. This change has potential to bring tremendous benefit to our team, our sponsors, our broadcast partners and, most importantly, our fans. - Jay Mariotti
Jay Mariotti, you are a heartless, cruel bastard.
Today, you not only succeeded in shredding whatever remaining morsel of credibility left in your so-called career in journalism, but also defecated out the last fiber of elemental humanity within your atherosclerosis challenged pudgy physical existence.
For a son to lose his father is tough enough business, let alone for that still grieving son to have to step into his father's vacated worn shoes in "the family business". And none have it more difficult at this particular moment than Rocky Wirtz.
The Chicago Blackhawks have been remarkably resilient as an organization since the passing of their owner. This is a credit to Bill's sons. Peter was wise enough to step away from the day to day operations and give way to his brother Rocky. Bringing the previously "on the outside" sibling into the framework of the franchise was a stroke of brilliance and equally impressive as a selfless act on Peter's part to acknowledge what needed to be done to restore the once proud image of the hockey team.
Rocky has been remarkably forthright and honest to the franchise's employees and its fans regarding his plans to overhaul the franchise's public image. In a staff memo, Rocky announces his intention to have home games finally televised:"It's important to understand that CSN's current schedule was developed well over a year ago, so fitting the Hawks into that schedule can't be done overnight. But it can be done, and, while no definitive agreements have been reached, we are convinced that it is the appropriate next step to re-energizing Chicago hockey fans, and creating new fans. We are also working on a long term strategy for televising additional home games in the future."Well done Rocky, well done.
This has been a moment long awaiting for suffering Blackhawks fans. And how does Jay acknowledge Rocky's intention on turning around the franchise? He attaches the soon to be infamous "turn over in his grave" expression directly in front of Rocky's quoted statement.
Note that Jay elected to keep the matter deeply personal to Rocky rather than business. Mariotti didn't write "Bill Wirtz". Oh no, that simply wouldn't do. Retribution is in order. After all, justice must be served over an alleged comment from a Wirtz PR crony who told him not to write about the "no televised home game policy" in the column. And this supposed encounter did not happen yesterday either. It was eons ago. So instead, Jay writes "Dad" as a deliberate shot at Rocky.
Extremely petty on your part Jay, even for you. Hope the revenge was worth it. And just keep in mind that whatever goes around, eventually comes around.
Something to think about.
And good luck to Rocky Wirtz. Be sure to keep that Toews kid in a Blackhawks sweater for a long time. Today, you have gained a new hockey fan.
