[edit] Biography

[edit] High School Career

Marion Barber attended Wayzata High School in Minnesota, a local Football powerhouse, where he played baseball and Football.

In Football, Barber was a running back and a Defensive back, leading his team his senior year with 1,778 yards rushing, 18 TD's, and 10 Interceptions. Barber was a SuperPrep and PrepStar All-midwest winner, along with being a consensus all State player.

In baseball, Barber was a honorable mention All Conference Center Fielder.

[edit] College Career

Barber recieved a Scholarship to the University of Minnesota, and was the first in a line of Pro prospect runningbacks including Laurence Maroney. Barber had a very productive time in Minnesota, being part of the locally known Running Back Tandum "Barberoney" that also featured Laurence Maroney. This was significant as through Barber's Sophmore and Junior Seasons (Maroney's Freshman and Sophmore seasons) they became part of the first team to have 2 running backs rush for over 1,000 yards in the same year 3 consecutive years (Maroney and Gary Russel finnished this record the year after Barber declared for the Draft). Barber finnished Second on the Schools' all time rushing list even though he played only 3 seasons for the Gophers.

[edit] Pro Career

Barber chose to forgo his Senior season of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft. There he was chosen in the fourth round(108th overall) by the Dallas Cowboys. Barber has been a success so far in the pros. He shares carries with Julius Jones, and recieves a lot of the goaline carries.

Strengths:

Barber is a complete back who can catch passes and protect against the blitz on passing downs. Barber is a proven goaline back, who recieves a lot of the TD carries.

Weaknesses:

Barber is not as fast as some would like him to be, especially for being more of a balanced back instead of a power back. As is the case with most young players, Barber still has a bit of trouble with pass blocking and recgonizing blitzes.
