The Seattle Metropolitans, of the Pacific Coast League, defeat the Montreal Canadiens and became the first U.S. based hockey team to win the Stanley Cup.

Sport Illustrated broke the story of Pete Rose's gambling activities. The magazine alleged Rose bet on baseball from the dugout using hand gestures with an associate.
