  • The Seattle Metropolitans, of the Pacific Coast League, defeat the Montreal Canadiens and became the first U.S. based hockey team to win the Stanley Cup.

  • Sport Illustrated broke the story of Pete Rose's gambling activities. The magazine alleged Rose bet on baseball from the dugout using hand gestures with an associate.
