Manc Yank's Red Review
19 year old Manchester United and Northern Ireland International defender Jonny Evans turned himself in to the Manchester Police last night after a 26 year old woman claimed that she was raped at the same hotel where United were holding their Christmas party.
He has not been formally charged as of yet.
Even if he’s not charged it still cast a shadow on the reputation of a talented young footballer. I don’t see how this can end well for the young Red. Either he put himself in a position where a false allegation could be made—which would infuriate Fergie as he spends a lot of time warning the young lads about possible pitfalls to fame and stardom. Or he is guilty and should be jailed and never play professional football again.
The great Scot likes players that make news on the pitch and stay out of the headlines off the pitch; quiet ones like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wes Brown etc. That’s why Fergie likes to get them young, so he can mould them into responsible stars. That was the main reason why he got rid of Beckham when he did. Goldenballs thought being seen with his Spice Girl wife in the glossy mags was more important than his commitment to the team. He wanted to live his life on the front pages of the tabloids and not necessarily on the back ones. That is certainly not Fergie’s was so it had to be the hi-way. If it turns out that Evans is a bit of a playboy he may find himself on the fast-track out of Old Trafford guilty or innocent.
This all reminds me a bit of the Isaiah Thomas allegations. It’s very hard to prove you are innocent when it is one person’s word over another’s.
If he is indeed innocent I feel really bad for the kid. I hope it turns out that no crime has been committed, but if the allegations are true it is going to be a nightmare of a New Year and beyond for Mr Evans.
