Malcolm Jenkins is a junior cornerback for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was born on December 12, 1987 in Piscataway, New Jersey and attended Piscataway Township High School before going on to Ohio State.

In high school Malcolm was a three year starter and chose to attend Ohio State over offers from Rutgers and Virginia Tech. He was a two-way starter at wide receiver and defensive back and was named an all-state defensive back his senior year. His junior year Jenkins racked up 26 tackles and eight interceptions. Also in his junior year, Jenkins took home the state title in the 400-meter dash and placed third in the 200-meter dash.

[edit] Freshmen Year

Malcolm was a pleasant surprise for the Buckeyes his first year on campus when he played in ten games including three as the starting boundary corner. Although he missed two games with a knee injury, Jenkins still managed to account for 37 tackles (ninth on the team), including nine tackles in the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame and seven tackles in the game against Minnesota.

[edit] Sophomore Year

Coming into 2006 more pressure was placed on Jenkins as he was the team's leading returning tackler from 2005. Jenkins would end up starting all 13 games for the Buckeyes at field corner recording 55 tackles and four interceptions with 3 pass breakups and a forced fumble. Jenkins would equal his career high with nine tackles against Bowling Green and would also return an interception 61 yards for a touchdown against Penn State. Malcolm's play in 2006 earned him a selection to the first team All-Big Ten.

Malcolm turned in another stellar year in 2007 that earned him first team All-Big Ten honors and a selection as a Walter Camp Second Team All-American. Jenkins recorded 44 tackles in the 12 regular season games of 2007 and had three interceptions. Also, for the second year in a row, Jenkins returned a pick for a touchdown against Penn State. However, this one happened helped secure a big victory at Happy Valley in a tough night game on national television. On top of his regular corner responsibilities this year, Jenkins also would rotate to free safety during nickel or passing situations in order to shore up the Bucks coverage over the top.

Jenkins is considered to be the next All-Pro defensive back to come out of Ohio State in the mold of Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements and Shawn Springs. He has good size and man-to-man cover skills, but his most effective physical attribute is his 4.3 speed. Jenkins generally likes to play back on wide receivers and use his speed to close on the ball or the receiver quickly. Jenkins is also a sound tackler and can be physical with receivers when necessary. Although not terribly tall at 6'1", Jenkins has shown the ability to go up and defend the pass at its highest point.
