Making the Correct Decision (Moss or Wayne)

This is one match up that should create somewhat of a stir in your upcoming fantasy draft. The correct decision is imperative and will definitely make a difference in your win/loss column.

Some people may say that in the year 2007 this is a no-brainer. Wayne is the obvious choice. Moss is washed up. Brady will continue to spread the ball around to multiple options and Manning will begin to utilize Wayne as his primary target as Harrison heads towards retirement. However, who says Randy Moss will not be an integral part of the New England offense?

Wayne arguably plays on the most prolific offense with the best quarterback in the NFL and a team defending a Super-Bowl title. On the other hand, Moss plays with a “pretty decent” quarterback himself and is now New Englands primary receiving target and the one element which should propel the Patriots back into the Super-Bowl. However, the question remains; does Moss still possess the ability to make defenses lose sleep at night? And, will Wayne with the weapons around him maintain the high-level of play that we have all grown accustomed to watching?

I really didn’t want to have to tackle this one by myself. There is no question that Reggie Wayne is a great receiver and playing alongside Peyton Manning he should have another 90 catches, 1200 yards, and 8 touchdowns. However, I do believe that Moss is back, wants to win, and will return as one of the top receivers in the league. Therefore, Moss is the correct decision as we will once again see Randy leading in yards and touchdown receptions.

You make the correct decision!

Wayne is the no-brain choice right here. First, Randy Moss has lost a step. From day one, Moss has been blessed with great athletic ability. This ability is, however, decreases with age. This will force Moss to work on his skills, and we all know about Moss' work ethic. Second, Moss is one of about a dozen wide outs on the Pats right now. Will he even make the team? If yes, with X other wideouts on the team, how many balls will Moss actually catch? Third, Wayne is reaching his prime, while Moss is past his prime. For these three reasons, Reggie Wayne should be the pick over Randy Moss.

Will Moss make the team? Hahaha that's a good one. Yes, he will make the team, and NE won't keep more than 6 or 7 wideouts (for my money, it's Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney, Caldwell, Brown, and Jackson). Other than that, all of your reasoning makes sense. Brady's favorite receiver is whoever is open, which can be any one of those 7 guys at one point during the game, so he'll spread the ball around like he always does.I think Wayne is the better choice.

There are going to be some serious chemistry issues with the wideouts on the Pats roster. Yet, folks are predicting the Pats to win the SB. Talk about living off of past performance! :)

Stallworth was an asset for injury, Moss for an attitude likely caused by his teams' ineptitude. Wayne is the better choice, but as Meg said, Brady throws it to whoever is open. He went almost all Gaffney vs NYJ in the playoffs. If Moss is consistantly open, he'll get the ball. Wayne is the guarantee success, Randy is the risky option with a chance even if everything goes well, he won't end up near Wayne

Chemistry issues? You think Belichick would allow that? If there is any chemistry problem, whoever's causing it gets his ass kicked off the team. BTW, I was at Pats practice yesterday, and the wideouts were consistently hanging out together and laughing (Moss missed the practice, but everyone else was there). If there are chemistry problems, I don't see em.

Does anyone know why Brady has always spread the ball around? It's because he never had a "go to" guy. If anyone ever considered Branch that guy they're sadly mistaken. Moss will play a huge role in New England and will produce at least 1200 and 12 td's.

Definitely gotta go with Wayne.... he's a guarantee for 80/1000/10, your not entirely sure what Moss will give you, especially with Stallworth and Welker around.

Maybe if it's Santana Moss it might be a tough choice, but not Randy.

Definitely Reggie Wayne. He's extremely consistent, familiar with the offense he's in and he'd have been a #1 receiver for years on virtually any other team in the NFL. Plus, one of these years, and there's a good chance it's this year Wayne and Harrison will swap the primary receiver role in Indy.

That will never happen. Name a #2 that's ever gone on to take the primary role and be successful.

Hell you can say Isaac Bruce too, as he took the torch from Henry Ellard before Holt took it from Bruce.

I'd probably go with Wayne because of his history with Manning, but I wouldn't be surprised if Moss turns out to be a good fantasy performer again. I'm dubious of arguments that he has lost a step; he ran a 4.29 40 when the Pats signed him. That's pretty fast. He's also a big receiver who can use his body to make catches. If he takes most of the game off, like he did in Oakland, then of course he'll be a disappointment. But he has the physical attributes to continue to be a very good wideout--maybe not a top 5 WR, but top 10-15 wouldn't surprise me at all.

You only go with a big risk if there's an equally big upside. Even if Moss is a boy scout and puts up great numbers, he still doesn't eclipse Wayne by all that much. We're talking maybe a few fantasy points per game. But just in case you happen to be in a fantasy league with me this year- I'd definitely go with Randy Moss...

No brainer. Wayne.

Brady spreads the ball around because he's not talented enough to throw into coverage, throw the ball long, throw on the run, etc. When you have a spread offense and utilize the short pass, someone will usually be open, albeit for not much gain. The acquisition of Moss isn't going to make Brady throw the ball harder or farther, so the offense won't change much.

And Moss is like T.O. He's a pouting, whining baby. When he isn't the focal point of the passing game he has a tendency to jake it half the time. He runs poor routes, doesn't block, so to all of a sudden expect him to catch 80 balls or get 1000 yards is a bit optomistic. I see him closer to 50 catches and maybe 700 yards, although I think his TD total will be more than 10.
