Making the Correct Decision (C. Williams or J. Lewis)

Proven or unproven! Veteran or youth! Mediocre team or a team in process! Passing game or no passing game! Maybe!

This is a situation where you better secure your running back position early and not place too much emphasis on taking an early risk. However, one of these backs may produce and the other may not. Alternatively, both running backs could produce, but one could produce more than the other. So which one will you choose?

Jamal Lewis finds himself in a new situation in Cleveland and ready to prove that the Ravens made a mistake by letting him go. Or, has he lost the determination to break records and place his name amongst the elite backs of our time? Either way you look at it Lewis is still somewhat of a young running back and one of the Browns’ only true weapons. When you consider that the Browns play in a rivalry division and they will remain somewhat competitive you have to take into consideration that Lewis will be a big part of that. In a keeper league you wouldn’t draft Lewis over Williams, but in a season where you want to win now, who’s the better option.

On the other hand, you have Cadillac Williams a third year back who as a rookie showed the NFL that not only was he ready to play, but he was ready to begin a dominant career. Unfortunately, his “sophomore slump” season only showed signs of a fluke rookie campaign. What happened? Was it because the Bucs couldn’t move the ball or because their quarterback has less ability than my dead grandmother? Either way it goes the Bucs have improved with Garcia and we should see similar numbers from his rookie season when he rushed for almost 1200 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Now the question remains, which player is the “correct decision”?

If you look at the fact that Williams’ best season was as a rookie and he only managed mediocre numbers, you have to realize that Jamal Lewis could post those numbers on an NFL Europa team playing in the NFL. Add in the fact that the Ravens offense has always been stagnant and in Cleveland it could not be any worse. With that in mind, when Lewis has been called on to shoulder the load he’s responded with an average of1300 yards and eight touchdowns over six seasons.

In one of my league Cadillac Williams went 26th overall while Lewis slipped eleven picks later with the 36th pick. In the other draft Cadillac went 46th while Jamal Lewis found himself behind again with the 58th selection. Did these owners make the correct decision? I think not!

Sorry, man. I've got to go with the masses here. Jamal is 31 going on 41. In my ten team draft on Saturday, Williams went 46th and Lewis 53rd. I'm in a 14 team draft this Sunday, I would expect the order to remain the same.

The Browns are going to ease Quinn into the lineup by focusing on the run first, then opening up the passing game. Smart move for sure, but I don't see Lewis being durable enough to carry 25-30 times a game for five or six weeks in a row. Is he capable once in awhile for that amount? Probably, but he's too risky to be in your lineup every week.

Personally, I passed on chances to draft both of them, so, in reality, I think my team is better because I have neither.

He's actually only 28 but I do understand that he may appear to many as a player hitting the downside of his career. Did you know the most rushing attempts he's ever had was 387. If he hits 300 attempts this season(19 per game)he will have 1200 and 8 touchdowns.

You expect Lewis to average 4 yards per carry in CLEVELAND? His yards per carry average has dropped from 5.3 in 2003 to 4.3 in 2004, a career low 3.4 in 2005, and back to 3.6 last season, and that was running behind a GOOD offensive line. Cleveland has no offense to speak of, and Lewis is not the answer. Out of the two, I would take Cadillac Williams, but like Kelsdad, I wouldn't draft either. In my 14 team league, Williams went at 51, Lewis at 60. I personally like my backfield of Tomlinson, Jones-Drew and Ladell Betts.

I'm pretty sure that Lewis is in the FA list in my 12 team. I'll have to check to make sure, but I wouldn't be looking at either of these people for a viable team thats in a league under like 20 teams.

I wouldn't be too happy with Jones-Drew and Betts and if Lewis is in the FA list then people are idiots.
