Making the Correct Decision (C. Williams or J. Lewis)

Proven or unproven! Veteran or youth! Mediocre team or a team in process! Passing game or no passing game! Maybe!
This is a situation where you better secure your running back position early and not place too much emphasis on taking an early risk. However, one of these backs may produce and the other may not. Alternatively, both running backs could produce, but one could produce more than the other. So which one will you choose?
Jamal Lewis finds himself in a new situation in Cleveland and ready to prove that the Ravens made a mistake by letting him go. Or, has he lost the determination to break records and place his name amongst the elite backs of our time? Either way you look at it Lewis is still somewhat of a young running back and one of the Browns’ only true weapons. When you consider that the Browns play in a rivalry division and they will remain somewhat competitive you have to take into consideration that Lewis will be a big part of that. In a keeper league you wouldn’t draft Lewis over Williams, but in a season where you want to win now, who’s the better option.
On the other hand, you have Cadillac Williams a third year back who as a rookie showed the NFL that not only was he ready to play, but he was ready to begin a dominant career. Unfortunately, his “sophomore slump” season only showed signs of a fluke rookie campaign. What happened? Was it because the Bucs couldn’t move the ball or because their quarterback has less ability than my dead grandmother? Either way it goes the Bucs have improved with Garcia and we should see similar numbers from his rookie season when he rushed for almost 1200 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Now the question remains, which player is the “correct decision”?
If you look at the fact that Williams’ best season was as a rookie and he only managed mediocre numbers, you have to realize that Jamal Lewis could post those numbers on an NFL Europa team playing in the NFL. Add in the fact that the Ravens offense has always been stagnant and in Cleveland it could not be any worse. With that in mind, when Lewis has been called on to shoulder the load he’s responded with an average of1300 yards and eight touchdowns over six seasons.
In one of my league Cadillac Williams went 26th overall while Lewis slipped eleven picks later with the 36th pick. In the other draft Cadillac went 46th while Jamal Lewis found himself behind again with the 58th selection. Did these owners make the correct decision? I think not!
