Making a Mockery of the Mock Draft

Why are mock drafts in October completely useless? Because so many parts of them aren't even remotely close to being whole. Here on this cool (86 degree) day in October I take a look at mock drafts from all over the internet at halftime of the Browns whooping up on my Dolphins. I've seen a ridiculous amount of different top 5 teams, and top 5 players, proving that these early mocks are such a waste of time and energy. Not only do we not know who will finish in what order, but we don't even know what underclassman will come out, or who will get injured/retire between now and then! However, of course, I've done one of my own. So far so good, I have the first round done. Here's my top 10 of the 2008 NFL Draft:
- NFL PLAYER POS NCAA
1 ST. LOUIS BROHM QB L'VILLE The Rams are worse than the Dolphins, and while Long would make more sense, the guy is a RT and not a LT, and he might wind up an OG like Gallery. Can't pass on talent like Brohm with the deepest OT draft in history.
2 DALLAS (MIA) MCFADDEN TB ARK Jones wants McFadden, so he gets him. Trading both 1st to Miami + a 2nd (at least). Miami has more than 1 or 2 holes so they take the extra picks to draft OT Cherilus from BC and DE L. Jackson from USC later in the first.
3 MINNY RYAN QB BC His stock is sky-rocketing and I think he could be a top 5 pick if he maintains this status after a much more difficult second half of the season. If he keeps up the momentum he'll be a top 5 pick, if not, he'll go 2nd round.
4 NEW ORLEANS CAMPBELL DE UM Calais is big time over-hyped based on size/speed but he could give the Saints a pass rush that they just don't have right now (zero sacks so far).
5 KC (CAR) LONG OT MICH I see KC trading up for Jake Long to bolster their OL in any way they can. Carolina has needs but they could trade back a few picks and land a 2nd or 3rd rounder in doing it.
6 ATLANTA JACKSON WR CAL The Falcons need a QB, a TB and a WR. With Brohm and Ryan off the board they'll go with DeSean Jackson from Cal. Jackson is a deep threat who can also return kicks and punts.
7 BUFFALO PHILLIPS S UM Kenny falls into that "shouldn't come out but will because scouts drool over him" category. Kenny can run well, hits like a truck and haD an ability to make plays. Buffalo needs a big time playmaker to give that D a presence.
8 NY JETS DORSEY DT LSU Dorsey is supposedly a #1 overall pick, but sorry, who picks DT's #1?! He has a good 1st step, and will clock well in the 10 (more important than a 40 for DTs). The Jets could use him right away to protect Vilma and hassle QBs.
9 CAR (KC) CONNOR LB PSU Carolina traded down to get their replacement for Dan Morgan. Beason+Connor = one of the best young LB tandems in the NFC. The extra picks help them find a replacment for Delhomme and a safety.
10 ARIZONA BAKER OT USC The Cards still need a dominating OT, and Sam Baker could be that. Falling to 10 is insane, but most of these teams have pretty solid OT's, or at least too much money invested in them to draft one this high.
