Born on May 21, 1909 in North English, Iowa, Mace Brown (Mace Stanley Brown) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 10 year career. Brown broke into the bigs on May 21, 1935 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 3.59 ERA in 72.2 innings pitched in 1935, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Mace Brown's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1938, when he posted a 3.80 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 55 batters. However, others believe that it was 1940, when he posted a 3.49 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 73 batters.
