MLS Looking to Capitalize

With all professional sports leagues, having the ability to capitalize on success whether it’s at the individual level, regional level, national level, or what ever other level I don’t feel like mentioning, is a key component in growth. As I sat this morning watching Cold Pizza the MLS Commissioner made a cameo appearance. Thanks to Dana Jacobson I now know such a position even exists & is held by one Don Garber. As with any good commissioner (excluding Gary Bettman of course), he was trying to blow smoke up our ass & tell us what lies ahead for Major League Soccer and why we should tune in. Now hats off to him for trying to get the word out about his league (just like I’m trying to get the word out about LastRowSports.com), but hasn’t this league been around for 12 years…We’ve been here the same noise World Cup after World Cup from MLS ever since the birth of it after the United States hosted the World Cup. Even back then on the Opening Day, it was upstaged by a slow speed chase involving a White Bronco down a wide-open Southern California Interstate.
We all watched this past month, know what we saw? We saw our American lads get their asses handed to them. This supposedly powerhouse that we were referred to for some odd reason got lambasted by the Czech Republic, were outlasted by Ghana, & if it wasn’t for the Italians feeling sorry for us would’ve lost that game too. So why on earth would the MLS appeal to me more so after watching this transpire? Yes, we are all aware of the ratings Italy-France pulled on Sunday…A higher one than the NBA Finals. And David Stern talks about it being a global game. Well D.S., there goes that theory. Better reexamine that notion.
Okay, so lets just say I was still interested in getting more of my futbol fix….Why would I want to watch some more of Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Clint Dempsey, Kasey Keller, Eddie Johnson, Eddie Pope, Claudio Renya, Brain McBride, & others (sorry for the people I left out)? Now maybe if you bring “Crybaby” David Beckman or Zinedine “Butthead” Zidane in the twilight of their careers my spice things up. MLS goes geriatrics…Just make sure Zidane doesn’t drink a Red Bull…Those things are lethal, there’s no telling what he could do?
Memo to Mr. Garber: US soccer had a golden opportunity to try and capture fans out there by having a successful World Cup just as our Lawnboys did four years ago. Unfortunately, this Golden opportunity went by the wayside with the big ole shit that was left for all the world to watch. I applauded your efforts Commish in trying to sell your product to the American public, but our football is going to start in two weeks. Everything you’re trying to do is falling on deaf ears. Go cry to some other people and do yourself a favor and save your breath…You’re going to need it when you get old.
