Maybe next time we could work on having a whole *two* sentences for our articles?

I disagree. That's an interesting stat and I'm fine with it how it is.

You mean, Christof, it was all *you* need to know. I need to know more.

I don't know, Christof. But I think every article should have more information than a restatement of the headline.

If you don't know what else to add, maybe the article does its job and tells you all that you need to know about it. Sure, this one is not going to win any awards, or be remembered in a week. However, it gets the point across, even if only 1 sentence is required to do so.

Funny, ESPN managed to do a whole article on it, and we couldn't manage *two* sentences? I think one-sentence articles are a waste of time. I don't want to spend my time clicking to read an article, only to find out that there's no more information in the article than there was in the headline. The ESPN article was worth reading; this article wasn't.

Who even wrote this? I can't see a name - although, I'm not sure if this qualifies.

Only Opinion articles get user name tags; you can find who wrote News articles by looking at the Page History link, at the bottom of the page.

there's no name because it's a news article. only opinions have who posted it. If you really want to know you can look at the page history.

I posted it. I didn't see the point in going through and rehashing the whole thing. It was an interesting stat, the orginial article was well done and I didn't have a lot of time anyways. If people wanted to read more, the link is right there, it just takes a little movement of the index finger and poof, there's an article about it.

Oh wait, Xinoph, who complained there wasn't enough moved the link to the full article. Silly me.

That's pretty much true of all news articles on AGM, though. To take that attitude, every News article on this site would just have one sentence and a link. There's no reason this should be one sentence and other news articles shouldn't be; I think all news articles should carry across more information than what's in the headline. This is clearly just my opinion, though; I'm not saying this as any kind of edict or a moral judgement on you, CPCP.

For the most part I agree. But I was on my way out the door when I saw the article and I thought it was info that a lot of people on this site would find interesting. I didn't want to copy and paste the article and I didn't have time to properly write my own version so I did what I could. I'm not trying to set a trend, I've posted a handful of news stories and this is the only one I didn't take time to make my own.

What relevance does the relocation of the link have to this discussion about the length of the article? I complained the *article* wasn't long enough, not that there weren't enough characters on the page. I didn't consider the URL of the source article to be part of the article itself, any more than a byline in a newspaper article. To be more accurate, I mainly complained about an article that conveyed no more information than the headline.

It's hard to write more than just a few lines in a news article, especially when most of our articles are coming from OTHER news articles. I can see both points, but if we're not the one researching the topic or breaking the news before everyone else, it's hard to write more than just the point due to copyright rules and stuff.

I don't think it's that hard. Reword things, use multiple sources, and do a bit of original research to find stats not mentioned on ESPN, and poof! You have a paragraph.

"What relevance does the relocation of the link have to this discussion about the length of the article?" Because my link was to the "Full Story" as I had it. I knew the one sentence was short, but I had an obvious link to a complete article. You moving it where it just says "ESPN.com" looks like I just put one sentence and that was it. You can't tell the full story is linked to.

Maybe we should create an area for stories that need more development - rather than just a "News" and "Opinion" section? Perhaps an "Interesting Tidbit" or a "Blurb" section could cover these type of things. One of the benefits of a Wiki format is usually that multiple people contribute to a page, not just the original poster. I have noticed that other than spelling or formatting errors, most pages are only contributed to by the original author.

This was a statement about a historic stat which was found in a news article that was sourced. It was a piece of news and it was not meant for an opinion. If it was not sourced, i'd see Xinoph's point. But Im a cpcp gave credit to the article and did not see any point in adding to an article that speaks for itself.

In terms of the actual article, the stat is pretty incredible. Not to distract from this conversation or anything. And a lot of times people don't have time to write something long. I'm not really a fan of the closer position, I think having a consistent closer is necessary, but saves aren't the most difficult stat to attain. Good closers also lose their jobs within two years (F. Cordero, K. Foulke) and their success is inconsistent from year to year.
