Tim Brosnan, executive Vice President of business for MLB, confirmed today that the league would formally celebrate if San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds surpasses Hank Aarons' all-time home run record of 755 HRs.
With just seven more home runs, Bonds would surpass Babe Ruth's 714 home runs. Bonds, recently the subject of controversy over steroids, currently stands at 708 HRs.
For breaking Ruth's record, McFarlane Toys has plans to offer special commerative figurines of Ruth and Bonds, while Topps plans a special series of cards on Bonds' home runs (#s 700-715).
