MLB Suspends Two More

Major League Baseball announced the suspension of two more Major League ballplayers for violating the drug policy.  Kansas City's newly acquired OF, Jose Guillen, and Baltimore OF/1B, Jay Gibbons, were suspended for 15 games of the '08 season.  This is a preview of how the current ballplayers that are revealed in the Mitchell Report, which will be revealed in the next 1-2 weeks.  Gary Matthews Jr., Rick Ankiel, Scott Schoeneweis, and Troy Glaus were also linked in related media reports to the purchase of human growth hormones, but the MLB decided there was "insufficient evidence" to determine they committed a doping violation.

Jose Guillen told ESPN Deportes.com's Enrique Rojas that his lawyers will appeal sanction, but has refused to comment further on the case.  But, Jay Gibbons will not appeal his penalty, and has already accepted responsibility, and apologized.

"I am deeply sorry for the mistakes that I have made. I have no excuses and bare sole responsibility for my decisions," the Baltimore outfielder said. "Years ago, I relied on the advice of a doctor, filled a prescription, charged the HGH, which is a medication, to my credit card and had only intended to help speed my recovery from my injuries and surgeries."

Here is O's President of Baseball Operations, Andy MacPhail's reaction to Gibbons' apology.

"We completely support the Commissioner's program and his decision with regard to Jay Gibbons' suspension," MacPhail said. "Jay has acknowledged his mistake, and we appreciate his willingness to accept the consequences."

This incident has made me question Baseball even more.  I thought, at first, that it was just a few stupid liars in Baseball, but know I don't trust ANYONE.  Especially with guys like Troy Glaus, Jay Gibbons, and Rick Ankiel suspected of, or actually taking human growth hormones.  It makes you wonder how many more guys have been taking them.  Isn't steroids supposed to make you a better player??  So, how come sub-par guys have allegedly taking them (i.e. Scott Schoeneweis, Jose Guillen).

I respected Gibbons as a player, and a person, but, once again, another professional athlete has let fans down.  What do you think this does to the younger fans??  What are they going to think of all you guys???

Maybe it would save all of us a lot of time and frustration if Mitchell just listed the clean players.

Have heard the Mitchell report will be released right before Christmas...not exactly the Christmas present for players on the list that they were wanting. It will definitely be a blue Christmas for them.

We may be surprised at names on the list or who is not on the list.

The problem is a lot of these guys were taking something that a doctor was telling them they should take. If I go to the doctor and he says here take this it will help you heal faster. I'd take it. If I ask what it is and he says it's a steroid I'd still take it. Why? because steroids are given every day to help our bodies heal. Our bodies need them. The problem is there are so many "supplements" out on the market from the simple one a day vitamin to creatine to HGH to the vaguely broad category of "steroids". I am not a supporter of athletes juicing up to get stronger and faster. I am simply saying, where does the line start and where does it end? I look at Jay Gibbons and I honestly believe he wasn't trying to do do anything but what he thought was good for himself and his team. These type of guys aren't some sort of steroid junkies. I don't know what else to say so I am just dropping it right there...I am sure everyone else will have plenty of input...
