MLB Fashion Police Go After Francona During Game

New York saw both of its teams involved in a sweep with key division rivals. The Yankees taking three from the Red Sox puts them a bit closer to their hated rivals to the North, but more importantly puts them a game ahead of the Mariners who make a rare visit to Yankees Stadium for a BIG series next week. The Mets on the other hand are going down hill fast. Being swept by the Phillies leaves them only 2 games ahead and now they travel to Atlanta where their past record does not bode well for the Mets.
One last thing before we leave baseball. What's with MLB Fashion police approaching Terry Francona during the middle of the Red Sox/Yankees game yesterday to see if he was wearing his jersey under his windbreaker? Give the guy a break and let him do his job. MLB couldn't wait till after the game? Speaking of sweeps did you know that Jeremy Wariner lead a USA sweep in the Men's 400 meters at the Track & Field World Championship in Osaka, Japan. Probably not, but then you're in the same boat as 99.9 percent of Americans.
Track & Field only comes to the forefront here every four years during the Olympics. It's too bad that this demanding sport does not captivate the US audience as it does around the world. Speaking of International competitions, the FIBA tournament (that's an International basketball event that serves as an Olympic qualifying event) is being held in Las Vegas in front of sparse crowds.
Maybe Americans believe this tournament is being officiated by referees who are betting on these games as well. It's sad to see the former Robo QB - Todd Marinovich, the former star USC QB and First Round pick - back in the news, once again for drug possession. Maybe he and Andy Reid's son can get a group rate at some fancy rehab center and perhaps rid themselves of their need for illegal drugs. The NFL pre-season came to a close last night, with Vinny Testaverde looking like he just came off the Univ. of Miami campus and not just a few years away from getting his AARP card.
The college football season started in usual fashion, with top ranked teams beating up on teams who maybe should be in Div. I AA. I'm glad that Mack Brown now makes $3 million dollars a year to be a college coach. And the press release made it very clear that his salary was from money raised by the Athletic dept. and NOT state taxes. Does that make it any better, that the football coach is the highest paid state employee in Texas? It's times like this that I believe we as a Nation have lost our moral compass.
And finally David Beckham sprained his knee and may well miss the rest of the MLS season as well as several England National Team games that no one at the MLS told the Americans about when they signed him to whatever eight or nine figure amount you read in the latest article. For all you fantasy football players my tip is stay away from Brady Quinn. He built his college stats against the likes of Army, Air Force and Navy. He's going to face a bit tougher schedule when he starts playing on Sundays, Mondays or Thursdays.
