MLB Awards Banquet

I have an idea, not a new one, but one that needs to be discussed regardless. Instead of the slow daily drip of awards announcements, why not have a damn banquet. Yes a banquet. Old school, simple, invite the top 5 players in each award category, have some other celebs, maybe a musician, some montages and some old timers. Give baseball a platform to showcase the best it has to offer. Heck do two! One for NL, one for AL, make it fun, not too flashy but something that will allow baseball fans to formally say goodbye to the previous season. I know we all hate awards shows, but this is one that would not be manufactured, and have awards and categories we care about. We all start the count down to Pitchers and catchers reporting, let's have a formal start to the hot stove. The GM's are getting together right now anyway, why not make a bigger and more public party out of it?

I like that idea, I think that it should all be one one show and that at the very end they should have a voting between the MVPs of the two seperate leagues to decide all of baseballs MVP.

Um, baseball does have an awards banquet. It is held after all the awards are announced.

Yeah, but then it's not nearly as fun. It could be like the Oscars for baseball! The ESPYs, but relevant!

That is a great idea. Address that to Bud Selig. At least he can pretend that he wants to make baseball look better for the fans.

Selig would never go for it...he is too regimented in his thinking and can't stand the idea of baseball fans having a awards show to watch in the offseason. He is afraid he would have to be there to give out the awards and afraid Barry Bonds would win one of the awards.

Baseball somehow believes that by announcing each award over the course of 5 weeks or whatever it is, it's somehow keeping fans interested during part of the offseason. In reality, it just pisses people off.

Do I want to wait to see who won a gold glove? Better yet, is it really necessary to 'tease' me and build the anticipation for the AL MVP announcement?

Silly idea, needs to be changed. Pick a day, announce the majority of the awards. If they want to hold the MVPs and Cy Youngs over to a second day, fine. Current format = PITA
