Luke Sewell (James Luther Sewell) was born on January 5, 1901 in Titus, Alabama. He made his Major League debut on June 30, 1921 for the Cleveland Indians. In 1924, his rookie year, he hit .291 with 0 home runs and 17 RBI. Sewell played for the Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 20 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Luke Sewell's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1933, when he knocked in 61 runs. However, others believe that it was 1936, when he knocked in 73 runs.
