Starting with last Sunday's game Luis Vizcaino has won four games for Yankees in relief in the last week. In May he had given up 12 runs in 12 innings for a 9.00 ERA but in June he was 2-0 with a 0.77 ERA and so far in July is 4-1 with an ERA of 1.35. In his last eight appearances he has given up no runs and only 2 hits. His week culminated yesterday in him winning both ends of a doubleheader against the Rays.
Prince Fielder better look over his shoulder and start hitting home runs again because Ryan Howard is gaining on him fast. Fielder has only hit three homers since the 25th of June and has only driven in 6 runs and only has 3 hits in his last 30 trips to the plate.
Meanwhile Howard has hit 11 home runs and driven in 28 runs since the 25th of June. Howard is slugging .797 for the month of July. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him finish with more home runs than Alex Rodriguez by the end of the season.
Howard hit 10 homers in 107 at bats in June but already has 8 homers in only 64 at bats in July. Howard battled injuries earlier in the season and only had 9 home runs at the end of May. If he was having a typical season for him he would have about 37 homers right now. He still has a chance at 50 homers despite his stint on the DL.
