Born on February 18, 1927 in Penuelas, Puerto Rico, Luis Arroyo (Luis Enrique Arroyo) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees over the course of his 8 year career. Arroyo broke into the bigs on April 20, 1955 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 4.19 ERA in 159 innings pitched in 1955, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Luis Arroyo's best season was 1961, when he posted a 2.19 ERA, won 15 games, notched 29 saves and struck out 87 batters.
