That was an exciting game tonight, but I'm not entirely sure people will be sold on a Big East team being a national contender after tonight. The teams showed great offense, but we already knew they had that. There was no defensive play tonight, and there were things about the game that were really sloppy.

West Virginia mustered 540 yards of total offense and still lost, thanks in part to three lost fumbles. And Louisville allowed Pat White to account for 347 yards of total offense. Although he had his lowest completion percentage for any game this season, his 222 yards is a new season high. It was only the second time he's passed for 200 yards all season, and just the fourth time in eight games that he's passed for more than 100. He also rushed for 125 yards, a nice compliment to Slaton's 156.

Like I said, it was an exciting game, and there's no debating the offensive talent of these teams. But that sure didn't look like national championship-caliber defense tonight.

Didn't I pick Louisville to win it all?

And I think it's as ridiculous a pick today as it was then. They haven't even won the Big East yet, let alone qualified for the National Championship, let alone won that game. This was a big win for them, but let's not put the horse before the carriage here.

Didn't I say from Day One that West Virginia wasn't going to win the National Championship?

Beware of the "old college letdown" next Thursday when the 'Ville plays at Rutgers.

Letdown? RU is a powerhouse ranked in the top 15. If Louisville were to lose it wouldn't be too far of a 'letdown".

Yeah, I hope Rutgers wins Thursday night. It would be a big step for the Rutgers program and give them a shot at going into WV unbeaten. I do think that WV is the best team in the Big East.

That's not what he meant by letdown. He meant letting your guard down. Playing a down game the week after a huge win. It happens all the time.

But, by the way you meant it, it would still be a letdown. RU isn't a powerhouse, they're a team that's playing pretty well this year. And losing to the number 15 team in the country the week after beating the number three team in the country would be a letdown for Louisiville.

ASwaff- I say Louisville comes into NJ and loses. Rutgers has a great running game, run defense and special teams. Look for Rutgers to slow down Louisville's rushing game and score some defensive touchdowns. If Rutgers can convert on some of those long plays (2 drops last week), that will spread the defense and then allow Rutgers vaunted running game to go wild. Leonard/Rice...

Hey, I'm not saying Rutgers couldn't win the game. I think basically any team can win any game any given week. I just think that for ANY team to lose to ANYONE outside of the top ten after beating the number three team in the country would be a letdown. It's not a comment on the competition, just saying that to lose a game like that after such a big win, you'd basically be throwing your season away.
