Lou Whitaker (Louis Rodman Whitaker) was born on May 12, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1977 for the Detroit Tigers. In 1978, his rookie year, he hit .285 with 3 home runs and 58 RBI. Whitaker played for the Detroit Tigers for his entire 19 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Lou Whitaker's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1985, when he slugged 21 home runs, hit for a .279 average and knocked in 73 runs. However, others believe that it was 1983, when he hit for a .320 average and knocked in 72 runs.
