[edit] Biography

Lou Novikoff (Louis Alexander Novikoff) was born on October 12, 1915 in Glendale, Arizona. He made his Major League debut on April 15, 1941 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1941, his rookie year, he hit .241 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI. Novikoff played for the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Lou Novikoff's best season was 1942, when he hit for a .300 average and knocked in 64 runs.

When Novikoff played for the Cubs he would refuse to go into the ivy at Wrigley Field fearing that it was poison ivy. He was also reported to have tried stealing third base with the bases loaded saying he had a good jump on the pitcher.
