Born on June 27, 1921 in Apache, Oklahoma, Lou Kretlow (Louis Henry Kretlow) played for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Athletics over the course of his 10 year career. Kretlow broke into the bigs on September 26, 1946 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 6.16 ERA in 76 innings pitched in 1949, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Lou Kretlow's best season was 1951, when he posted a 4.20 ERA and struck out 89 batters.
