Lopez breaks out, beats Mariners

The Baltimore Orioles' Rodrigo Lopez has had a season to forget, going into Thursday's game with a 1-7 record and a 8.07 ERA. Lopez went 7 and a third innings giving up only two hits, no runs, and striking out 4. At one point Lopez retired 18 straight. Miguel Tejada and Jay Gibbons drove in the only runs of the game, scoring Brian Roberts, who had the only other 2 Oriole hits. Gil Meche took the hard luck loss for the Seattle Mariners. Meche went seven innings, giving up only 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 BB, and striking out 10. Raul Ibanez and Richie Sexson got the only 2 hits for Seattle. Chris Ray got the final 5 outs for Baltimore to get his 12th save.
