Yankee announcer Bobby Murcer passes away at the age of 62.
It is a sad day for the New York Yankees franchise. Former Yankee, player, exec and broadcaster Bobby Murcer has died today due to complications from brain cancer. His family was at his bedside for his final moments. Bobby Murcer had 252 career dingers and 1,043 RBIS in 17 seasons with the Yankees, Giants and Cubs.
Murcer will always be remembered for hitting a three-run homer and then hitting a walk-off two run single in the game the night after delivering the eulogy at the funeral of Thurman Munson.
I remember when I first tuned into Yankees games on WPIX-TV as a kid and hearing the great duo of Bobby Murcer and Phil "Holy Cow" Rizzuto. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of their broadcasts. In a year in which so many great announcers in the sports and political arena have passed on, this is another tough loss for the broadcasting world.
RIP Bobby Murcer and thank you for all you have done.
P.S {RIP Tony Snow as well. What a sad day.}
