Will Armchair ever have a 100 vote article?

Posted by Alex Holowczak

13 months or so since this site began, and we are still awaiting the first ever 100 vote article. The Top Voted Pages show that the closest we came were 80 and 90. They already passed about 70 by May of last year, so it is still possible that with a continued steady trickle of votes that they can reach the magical century mark.

All the marks on that page have gotten 30, so if you ever get that number of votes for an article, then you're in an elite band.

It still strikes me as odd though, that as users have increased, vote numbers have decreased per article compared to the initial boom as the site was set up. Still, a year on, and there still is no 100 vote article.

The articles that have come and gone since then that are of the same quality etc. as those have all come up short to the top two or three articles.

So I wonder, will we ever get to 100 votes for an article?

Once articles get enough votes to be promoted, it seems some people just don't vote for them. That's why most articles stay right around 9-11 votes.

I've never got up to 9-11 votes enough to notice. :) But I agree, as I read articles, if something got promoted without me reading it, I don't read it myself and vote for it (i.e. choose to). I think there's another threshold though, if it gets to 20ish again, suddenly people to start voting again.

I haven't quite made it to 20 yet. I have two 19s, two 18s, and three 17s, but the 20 mark has eluded me.

I haven't got past 14 votes for 9 months! None of my highest votes are for sporting things either, they're for what lockerroom posts are for now!

No, they probably won't. The next oppertunity is if/when the next edition of Techmo Super Bowl comes out. I, however, will break my own record for most comments by breaking the 400 mark in one article in a live blog sometime before March 2008

1 user can break that record, whereas a whole heap of users need to vote for stuff to get it to 100 (well, duh), but you see what I mean... I'd rate a 100 vote article ahead of a 1000 comment one.

I don't think we will ever see a 100 vote article. It is simply not in the cards.

It's certainly possible, but you'd have to have serious mass appeal and lots of word-of-mouth

It's clear that Armchair has lost a little bit of steam and we should be recruiting more and more writers. 100 won't be easy, but why CAN'T it happen? Content is content... the format and possiblities are here; write better fellas, I have a new goal in mind.

100 is the new black, I mean the old 10...

I agree entirely. There's no reason why it can't happen. There needs to be a dedicated core of about 100 users, and our number of daily viewers is about, what, 10-20? Also, one thing. Anyone seen Awrigh01 lately?

The recruiting is working--that's how I landed here a couple of weeks ago. Someone found my sports blog and passed along an invite to join the crowd here. I checked it out for a couple of weeks before joining--I eventually did because of the smart writing and positive comments/attitude, unlike the typical 'my team rules, your team sucks' stuff you get on message boards and the like. Thumbs up, AGM. Keep it up and there will be a century vote soon.

I agree to that. On YouTube I always read on F1 articles "Alonso is (expletive), Schumacher is the best" etc. by 20 different attitudes but using similar language. This is definitely the most pleasing/social forum on the Internet (bar maybe the odd scar), but I think it's generally all good.

And that's good Awrigh01 is doing something! As long as there's a reason and he's not just slacking... :)

Do we even have 100 registered users?

That was my first thought as well.

Perhaps registered, but I don't think there are 100 active users. I disappear when after baseball is over, and I suppose there are NFL fans that do the same for football.

On "the old site", we technically had 1,500ish users, although I think that in the time you'd need to get 100 votes (about 5 days), considering that probably no more than 20 different users a week pass through, then it's unlikely.
