Why does everyone get so uptight about plusses and minuses?

The plus minus thingee doesn't concern me at all. I just enjoy editing the wiki bit the most here at AGM. I was not overly pleased with my own writing so I cut back on it. Maybe later I shall give it a whirl again.

Don't really care either way. If I get a plus, that means people are reading and like what I say. They either agree or are entertained, etc. If I get a minus, that means people are reading and either disagree or are haters. Good for them if they disagree. At least they're reading. If they're haters, then they're the lowest form of life on the internet and I have no regard for them whatsoever.

Criteria to earn minuses on ArmchairGM:

• Offend Americans
• Chess is the epitome of sport!
• Log out and minus yourself
• Have a mortal foe
• Type what I call "YouTube comments"

Relax, it was supposed to be a minus, don't go getting your thong in a bunch.

As the leader in plus-minus ratio (highest average comment score), I believe that it doesn't matter. Course, it's always nice when people give me plusses, but at this point I think it's gotten to where I get plusses for everything I say.

Ideally, the plus-minus system would work like this: If you agree with what a person says, you give them a plus. If you don't, you minus them.

Of course, if you're going to get upset over whether or not someone gives you an imaginary minus, well, I don't know what to tell you.

I agree it's nothing to bitch about...it shouldn't be about points.

But honestly, does it make you feel better when you disagree with someone that you hurt their score? Why don't you spend time formulating an argument to convince the other person to see your point? It's like, instead of saying, "Fack you, you're wrong," you could say, "You're wrong, here's why..."

Having someone agree with me is much more satisfying than hurting their points, which don't really matter in the first place.

I used to have the Yankees logo as my avatar, I'd get minuses just for that.

"Hey, KD, great comment, you're right, blah, blah, blah, but I'm minusing your ass because your a Yankee fan."

If we had a system that measured people's pre-existing +/- ratio to value their +/-s to others, considering of course the +/- ratios of other commenters on the same articles, as well as +/- differential, I think we'd all be happier.

You can minus whoever you want for whatever reason. But I think it's silly to minus someone just for disagreeing with you. If you disagree with someone, argue with them. Minusing them, to me at least, is a bit shallow.

Not only that, I've personally given out a fair number of pluses just to neutralize your minuses, so you're wasting your time.

"Some comments are rather insightful, funny, informative, or generally hip to the underlying point. Others are inflammatory, bigoted, spam, or just plain sucky. The comments score gives us a way to bury the bad and promote the good." While "just plain sucky" does leave some latitude to vote for anyone that likes Michigan or Duke, it goes against the spirit of the site. Sorry, but no mention of disagreement. Besides it's much more fun to minus people just because they have a cactus avatar.
