What is allowed on armchairgm?

Unfortunately I feel like this is necessary.

A lot of situations have recently occured on this blog that need answers. It feels like for some unknown reason that original "top posters" and even administrators were more than happy posting to each other, living as one tight family.

I was brought to armchairgm by 2 or 3 seperate bloggers who commented about armchairgm's format and being overall a good blog. The column that was introduced to me was of course Leslie's. Not going there as this is no longer relevant.

However, as this blog is an open format where anyone can "write a sports article" I did so. First was a little column (yes tongue and cheek) about the Sox vs Cubs-- rivalry was occuring as I wrote that and yes my wife really did say "who cares". Next was the beer column which I had created on another blog and was asked by DNL to further explain it in an article or column that again I posted here-- I did this here NOT on the other blog that I normally do.

I look at things as this: EVERYONE has the right to first produce any column here on ANY topic of their choice. EVERYONE has the right to comment on that said column if submitted. EVERYONE has the right to comment on comments that have been submitted on that said column. So why all the hate? Why all the censorship? Why all the arguing? I have never been on a blog that so quickly tries to "control" the context that it has on it. How dare someone tell me how I should feel, what I mean, what has happened in my life, how to live my life, what I can write, what I cannot write, so on and so on.

Yes politics and sports go hand in hand-- wake up!- however, on both of my columns some individuals decided to go down paths they shouldn't have gone down. Certain topics were not brought up by me; however, when one post a comment that must be held accountable to the response it will get.

So here is my point: I have been cursed at. I have been threatened by acts of voilence. I have tried to be censored. I have been censored. I have been told how I should feel. I have been told what my childhood consisted of and what my future will hold.

And yet, this was all okay. No problem. But, when a certain member released information that allowed another member to find out personal information they were banned.

I don't get this.

So, I am hoping that someone can explain to me how armchairgm works? I am use to a world where if someone freely expresses themselves you have few choices: #1. Don't listen (or read) and ignore or #2. Listen/read and comment.

Problem is #2 allows that person to respond back.

Hope people can explain.

Jamel Bryant, Chicago, IL.

I think that certain member wanted to get banned. It wasn't sports related at all and came across as potentially "sinister" in it's intent.

You get what you give.

And naming my wife has nothing to do with our conversations. What's next? You wanna bring my Mom into it to?

Don't make it personal. My wife and her family have nothing to do with your keyboard.

There's a reason my name is so easily accessible. I DO things. Make like me and get YOUR name out there too, by contributing. Stop being a little brat playing this "he said-she said" and get over yourself already...

For the MILLIONTH TIME - SPORTS content. Stop the semantics already.

whether I'm a dick or not, I am trying to squash this non-sports non-sense, take it elsewhere - THIS is not the place.

But my wife and her family has nothing to do with this. I'm not asking as a favor. It's just respect.

Guess what, I am a dick. But can we can go to dickwiki.com and talk about there?

See where I'm coming from?

All this hate is just a way to cover up the truth: The Cubs aren't really worthy of being called a Major League Baseball team...

if you click "remember me" you won't have to sign back in. Of course once you log out to post anonymously (we all did it when we first started, too) you have to log back in. Or if you jump from computer to computer to vote on your own articles (we all did that when we first started, too) you also have to log back in.

Otherwise, you could make ArmchairGM your homepage (to match your ACGM t-shirt) and never have to worry about saying "^^^ that was me, darned logouts" again!

Even Kelsdad can do it...

Mr. Jamel I think people are fine with you posting articles and bringing up discussion points (as long as they are somewhat related to sports and the topic of the article) but this forum or blog as you call it is a good community of sports fans that yes may be tight nit but is very inviting as long as you are willing to try. Coming in and expecting instant and total acceptation may have been a little unrealistic but also you joined at a stressful time in which over worked people may have made a mistake in banning you for which I am sure that they are sorry for. In my experience with ACGM the people here are very opinionated, passionate and most of all protective of there teams, there beliefs, there families (as Manny has just demonstrated) and the 'chair it's self. Mr. Jamel I hope you have a long and happy career here at Arm Chair and that you take the time to understand the people here and learn to like them (for the most part) in the way I do. P.S. If I have misunderstood any details or my information is out of date I am sorry and I apologize for generally wasting your time.

Hey guys... I'm tired of all this flamewar crap, and my first big project as a newly minted administrator will be to start a process aimed towards drafting an ArmchairGM "Honor Code." Details coming later...

Jeez Jamel...you know I'm trying to keep an open mind about stuff but your post right here is trying to fan flames and find a conflict where there really is none. At least Tyler has suggested something and is being active about it. When your rhetoric is that angry and confrontational, even level-headed and sympathetic people tend to not want to respond...keep that in mind.

Politics obviously do have something to do with sports but I don't think it should be made a focal point within sports. Whether you intend to or not, you make it seem like politics dominates sports. It most certainly does not. Sports are entertainment, leisure, an escape. Why make something that's for fun into something that has to be more stressful? What is the point of comparing races in an article like the Sox/Cubs comparison post?

That was only one part of the article that certain someones tried to blow out of proportion. Same goes with the civil war part.

Sports is business for the owners. In Business there is politics for all sorts of reasons. Therefore sports is only entertainment for the fans.

Sports and Sport Related to their political and cultural and social background is fine in my opinion. E.g. you can't mention USA-Russia without mentioning the Cold War. You can't mention England v Germany without the war. You can't mention Ireland v England without mentioning the Easter Rising etc. But it shouldn't dominate an article.

Steroids should be banned- it causes roid rage- right Manny?

Total Posts: 4296 Joined 2006-10-06 I now have the douchebag’s address and phone number.

Give me a call then. Better yet, come on over. My wife (name which you Manny provide) can cook something nice… Who’s the douchebag, loser? Get a life of your own and you won’t have to be so preoccupied with mine. What are you trying to accomplish/ Prove you’re crazier than me? Good luck. Prove you’re better than me? Clearly you don’t read what you write, why would you read what I write? you gonna get me to shut up? Yeah, that’s never been tried before… Or are you against MY freedom of Speech?

Please do inform me on what you’re gonna do with all your pertinent info. If you were important (you’re not), I really could come visit you in Chicago. I’m already headed there in July anyway, got the tickets and all. I have plenty of resources, I can get to Chicago by Friday if you like. Alas, I could get plenty of info on you very easily. $40 on zabasearch.com goes a long way, let alone other public records databases that can be freely accessed… Cook County right? Did you know that Social Security Numbers are technically “public information”?
