What an Epic Collapse

All the Montreal Impact needed to do was not lose by 3 goals to Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal and the Canadian side would make a stunning advance to the semifinal.

They won the first leg 2-0 in Montreal in front of 55,000+ raucous fans and traveled to Mexico.

Montreal fell behind in the 2nd leg 1-0 in the 17th minute, but stormed back to take a 2-1 lead at the half. That's a 4-1 lead on aggregate scoring, and Santos would have to score 4 goals in the 2nd half or else they would be eliminated.

Watch another famous loss in Canadian sports history with funny Mexican announcers.

Montreal lose 5-2 in the match, 5-4 on aggregate. They gave up 2 goals in the last 3 minutes of the game and they are now done.

You may hate soccer, but you gotta admit that's a horrible collapse.

I don't hate soccer. Far from it, my favorite sport. Still Montreal has to be ashamed after that collapse.

That's like the time when Man City came back from 3-0 down to beat Sp*rs in the FA Cup.

Or the time Man Utd game from 3-0 down at the half to win 5-3 over Tottenham....also at White Hart Lane!

Montreal played the worst half of football I've ever seen.... 14 corners for Santos to ZERO for the Impact in the 2nd half.

"Watch another famous loss in Canadian sports history" As a Canadian I'm offended that you would sully the good name of Canadians and sport, that was neither a sport nor was it famous. That's like this Colorado guy telling the Mammoth are going to kill the Rush and that the Rush suck and I'm thinking what the hell is wrong with the person...Oh National Lacrosse League. Yeah I'm really just trying to distract SSR from my anti soccer agenda.

To be fair, England (and the English) have a reputation of doing things the hard way, win or lose. Look at Tim Henman at Wimbledon all those years. And Lewis Hamilton the last two years. Then look at how the football team scrapes into most major tournaments through the back door. And the cricket team were on course to win a match against the West Indies the other day, but it was drawn because we couldn't take the last wicket! We never win 5-0 or lose 4-0, or win a game of cricket by an innings and 193 runs. It's always close to the finish. Exciting though!

There was one game where a team was 5-1 up and lost 7-6, in the "Old" First Division (i.e. before Premiership, Championship). Huddersfield and Charlton Athletic were involved, I think. Anyone, one of the teams led 5-1 after about an hour, and lost 7-6. :-P
