Too Many Caption Contests

I know these are popular, but it seems as if there are too many caption contests that appear. It seems as people just create them as easy ways to get opinions promoted. Do you think we should limit these or what?

If other users didn't like them, they wouldn't vote for them, and the stat-padders would stop making them. We're a self-regulating system, there's no need for limits.

we need a kangaroo court for behavioral misdeeds, especially if we're gonna have a "lockerroom". I nominate D21Dub as Judge, Presiding over the ArmchairGM Kangaroo Court.

I, for one, only create them if I find a funny image through my normal web-meanderings. It's not like I'm going out and looking for images for that specific reason.

but for the most part, let people do what they're gonna - cream rises tot he top just like Pnatt's eradicate themsleves with ease... It's a community, and every village needs an idiot or two.

Wow, it sounds like the author of this rant is more concerned about their user ranking then allowing the market place decide what is worthy and what is not. If you don't like the Caption Contest, don't click on it. Simple as that.

That is Sir Captain Caption Contest! Anyway, I create them not so much for points (I can do 3-5 quick edits and get more points that way) but to freshen up the site during slow periods. Also, those caption contests do create comments, from mostly other users I may add.

I think most of them are good fun and add a lot of humor to the site and I see nothing wrong with the way it is now. Maybe if a lot of people have a problem, there should be a whole different section for users to create them.
