Tonight's Stanley Cup Game Could Be the Last For a Legend

Bob Cole has been the staple of Hockey Night in Canada before Don Cherry ever came aboard. He has called thousands of games and is still going strong at the age of 76. And yes, that's the guy you are hearing on NHL 2K7

If the Wings clinch tonight, Cole will have called his final Stanley Cup game, as the CBC will reduce his work for the next season.

I've listened to Cole for much of the playoffs and in some cases he can keep his vintage performances like in game 3 of the Cup final, but other times like this one from 2 years ago tells me it's the right decision.

Earlier in this series, he called Sidney Crosby "Steve Crosby", and he doesn't even know which player was called for which penalty. He is showing senility and I think it's time for him to retire.

Jim Hughson will replace him as the #1 commentator and will likely be paired up with that dolt Greg Millen.

The CBC should have stuck him on Leafs only duty years ago. Of course Ill be sad when he goes, I've been listening to the guy my whole life.

Although I agree Cole is showing senility, that was the Red Wings PA announcer Bud Lynch who referred to Crosby as "Steve".

I just thought they were disrespecting Crosby at the time. I would have laughed if I was at the Joe.

Craig Simpson is much better. PJ Stock is by far the worst, the man can't go 5 words without stuttering.

Stock down plays every player, it annoyes me so much. When he is as good as the players he is down playing he can down play them but it's tobad that he sucks at hockey and at brodcasting.

MacLean and Hrudey should host it alone, no one else. I could do without Cherry although I don't hate him.

Yes, useually Cherry has some good insight and he sometimes rippes Ron pretty bad, it's a laugh and a half. So basicly the guys I CAN'T stand are Greg "the dolt" Millen and PJ "no hockey sense at all" Stock.

You have no idea how much ratings would go down without Grapes or Coaches Corner.

This has been a good game so far in the first 3 periods. It's tied at 3 goals apice at the end of regulation. I just wish the Pens could've held on to their 2-1 lead. Go Penguins!!
