Tim Duncan the Most Underrated Great NBA Player of All-Time

Posted by Taddo

I honestly believe he is one of the best of all-time and gets no love. He has lots of rings, has played in the same city his entire career, tremendous role model, what else can he do? If that was anybody else hitting that 3 point shot yesterday and putting up 40 on the Suns, sportscenter would have been going nuts. Why do we not give Tim Duncan his due?

I honestly believe Tim Duncan will be remembered for this game yesterday more than any other. He just would not let his team lose yesterday. It is unreal how underrated he is and more unreal the lack of respect that he gets from the mainstream media. He may not have the appeal of a D-Wade, Lebron, Kobe or a Shaq, but he should definitely be in the top 25-30 greatest players ever to play in my position. He was the player that put the Spurs over the top in 1999. Then he became the centerpiece of the Spurs and has led them to 3 different championships. Moreso, he has won 4 titles playing with over 40 different teammates!!!! His leadership is infectious and it just seems that any NBA player regardless of their talent level would instantly benefit being around Duncan.

Couldn't agree with you more DRE-LO.

There has been so much hype about Kevin Garnett and the Celtics, Kobe and the Lakers, D-Wade and the Heat, LBJ and the Cavs... even Chris Paul and the Hornets (as of now). However, I hardly hear about how well Tim Duncan has led his team to so many championships and has come up big in so many situations.

He will definitely be in the top 25-30 NBA players of all time, IMO.

I hate to say it, but I honestly think that you're right. Tim Duncan is definitely a great player, averaging 21.6 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. He also led the Spurs to 4 championships, and was NBA Finals MVP was 3 years. He's definitely clutch in the playoffs, and has definitely been underrated as of today. He's unbelievable.

I'd agree that Tim Duncan is way up there, but my vote still goes to Jerry West. Few people today really know how good he was in the 1960s, often leading Los Angeles to the NBA Finals almost-singlehandedly. He was a 6'3 guard.

Tim Duncan is the 2nd BEST Power forward / Center of all time behind Bill Russel period NON ARGUABLY. He is the MOST UNDERRATED Basketball player in the history of Basketball more underrated than the great Moses Malone.

Duncan is also the SMARTEST FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND Center/Power forward of all time as well.

- The reason the wins -

The ball is always in Duncans hands. He takes the ball TO the basket with his back to the basket and facing the basket in Triple Threat mode, instead of fading away like Kevin Garnet. Duncan never settles for an outside jumper unless he needs it. Take a look at how many buckets are from the paint with Duncan. I would say 80 percent and the others are his Free Throw extended area that he mastered. YOU HAVE BETTER POSESSIONS EVERY TIME WITH DUNCAN. and he MAKES FREE THROWS.

Give him the ball and he created, Fall him and he hits. Body him up and he powers you in, power him in and he uses his footwork. Stop him and he dishes it it to the right player at the right time. AND YOU REALIZE WHY HE WINS, ITS SIMPLE HE KNOWS THE GAME BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.

Lebron James is a little bit of a better creator on the open floor but Duncan gets better shots than James, Kobe is learning for the first time and it took him 14 years in the league to understand where it took Duncan 1 (ONE) year to understand that you don't have to do it yourself to be a winner. The more ridiculed he is the more we will miss him and appreciate how he changed the game. Just like the New York Knick fans appreciated the great Patrick Ewing the day he retired and he didn't even win 1, you can now imagine how much ovation, respect and a LEGENDS MARK ON THE GAME Tim Duncan will receive the day he retires. He can go down as the most unappreciated player in SPORTS History since the Female Jewish high jumper from the world war 2 Olympics in Germany(what was her name again?) and the great Jackie Robinson and then rests Tim Duncan.

I hope this doesn't come to a shock to all of you around the world that charisma, street/Iverson ball, Headbands, Finger Wagging, And that stupid face thing that Deshawn Stevenson likes to do DOES NOT AND WILL NEVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP its the hustle, Trusting your teammates, Finesse, ever-lasting effort that bring back the GOLD and that is a TRUE WINNER and Tim Duncan goes down as a True Heroic player like Steve Nash and Michael Jordan's passion to win on the floor with a taped nose and a 105 Fever its the desire to win and TIM DUNCAN DEFINITELY HAS THAT DESIRE that makes you tear of happiness and cherish that feeling of winning it all.

Hey Taddo! What's wrong with doing college the way it's supposed to be done? Tim Duncan resisting the temptation of the pros as underclassmen, only shows the level of maturity he had that so many punks lack. Tim putting the owes upon himself to stick it out through school to the finish has made him a smarter man and his game more polished as a result of the short-term sacrifices he chose to make then for the benefit of tomorrow. Duncan reaping the rewards years later is how it should be! And Anonymous Fanatic #3! While I'm neither a fan of Allen Iverson’s thugery nor his selfish style of play, I do not see anything wrong whatsoever with headbands, swagger or charisma. People are different by nature; you have both your extroverts & introverts in every walk of life, as well as all in-between. An expressive person can be every bit as unselfish & modest as a low-key one. It's the different personalities of folks that color this world. Introverts can be just as cocky as extroverts depending upon the individual. Shawn Marion is really animated, yet went to college for 4yrs, is modest, unselfish, hard-workings, clean-cut, sometimes wears a headband and he's far and away not the only example.
