Superstitions

I'm usually not into superstitions and all that usually, but I've been wearing my Giants suede jacket and cap everyday to work ever since the week of the Giants/Pats season finale. Obviously, I don't wear it when it rains {See Seinfeld episode} But the work of this little ritual has me believing in it a little bit. With that said, what are some famous rituals and superstitions that you've had as sports fans throughout the years?

I have a pair of green and gold sneakers that I usually wear to work Friday (casual day) before the game. This post-season, for the first time ever, I had them on during a game. It was against Seattle and the Packers quickly fell behind 14-0. Since I was at home,I changed my footwear. From that point on Green Bay outscored Seattle 42-3. Of course the following week, the footwear selection was not enough to overcome poor line play as the Giants beat the Packers.

Well, I'm currently coaching a team called the "Red Sox". Before I started coaching, I was on the "Red Sox" for two years in a row. Since then, I've worn the same hat to all my games and every time I go out. I always get a bunch of remarks about how dirty it is, and how it should be washed. I say, "If I wash the dirt off my hat, I wash all the memories I had with that hat."

Uh yeah...

Reggie White practice jersey for home games...(currently) Brian Dawkins jersey for away games (used to be irving fryar...heh)...

During the most recent phillies season, I'd end up staying late at work, or eating out somewhere or stuck doing something and miss the start of a lot of games...and get in by the 2nd inning...and they always seemed to do well (or so I think)...and then, one time, when the mets needed a win and watched both games and the mets won while the phils lost....

so I purposely switched it up and avoided watching the beginning of either game for most of september...in fact during the final sunday, I woke up around 12 pm and watched infomercials and took a shower until about 2:30PM, literally avoiding the mets game, with my buddy yelling at me because he wanted to tell me the score (because Tom Glavine got blown up)...I will probably try it again ; - )

there's weirder shit too...like how I sit or move...and how i think that affects the game...i'm weird like that and I know it doesn't matter, but for those few hours, to me, it does...

Have you ever stopped to consider that the games are aired on a slight delay and no matter what you do the real action already occurred 7 seconds ago? Just saying...

yes manny...i have...

but I've also tivoed games and done the exact same thing...my superstition is based on some deep philosophy about the self and perception (descartes) and how the world only exists to me, etc etc (i'm egotistical too)

I'm not superstitious, just a little stitous

of course, I also believe there's a polar opposite version of me, who's from worcester (or about there) is a diehard boston fan (sox, Pats, etc) but goes to drexel in philly...and is enjoying the glory in a town that hates it...

I also think he flies to boston the same time i fly philly...we might have passed eachother while driving in opposite directions. So yes, the world might have ended in connecticut somewhere, had we seen eachother...

I also believe the he has this same theory and is an annoying commenter on a website called www.mgriahcmra.com

I call him reverse Justin...and yes, I probably believe this to some extent ; - )

About your "polar opposite" - He lives on another planet on the 4th flefton of Gworqle and everytime you say "No" he says "Yes", so he's either dead or having WAY more fun than you are!!! And he definitely goes to Drexel (LMAO).

Anyway, I have a digital cable Tv in one room and a regular cable in the other, and there's a delay between those two by about 2 1/2 seconds - or just enough time for me to run in the room my wife is in and pretend they (whoever they may be) did good when they didn't (or vice versa)

Due to my years and years of music experimentation and sampling, my brain is sometimes stuck on a delay effect! sometimes stuck on delay effect! sometimes stuck on delay effect! sometimes stuck on...

And JuT, sometimes, when I have a moment alone and the wife and kids are asleep... I watch an old video tape of the Zapruder film and I keep expecting JFK to duck!!! (Then I imagine he whips out a chinese star from his jacket pocket and throws it into the heart of the guy in the storm drain that shot at him! and then jumps into the driver's seat of the Lincoln, takes control and drives up to the grassy knoll, climbs on top of the Pearl Harbor sculpture and eye gouges the other guy that fired a shot too!) But alas - back and to the left every time...

During Super Bowl XXXIX, I realized that whenever I was smoking a cigarette, the Patriots would do well. When not smoking, the Eagles did well. I smoked the rest of the game. Felt like shit afterwards, but sacrifice is part of winning.

My dad bought me a facking 16-0 shirts for my birthday (right after the last week of the season) and I've refused to wear it or even look at it until after the Super Bowl for fear of the jinx.

I personally imagine that when these Super Bowl DVDS come out that there would be alternative endings just like regular DVDS.

Maybe Kevin Dyson breaks that tackle and wins it for the Titans at the horn. Maybe Adam Vinatieri's field goal attempt against the Rams is blocked by Aeneas Williams. Maybe Scott Norwood's FG would be...what r you kidding me? Wide left instead of wide right!!

I'm a baseball player... everything I do during spring/summer is part of a routine, or superstition if you will... which cleat gets tied first, how I go up and down stairs, what article of clothing I put on first, how I drive to the practice field... I'm a mess... and if I start doing bad, I change something a little at a time until I get it right... and no matter how facking wierd this may be, in the end, it is the reason that my team and I play well or don't

Okay, as a Goalkeeper my rituals are really odd:
  • First off, I like my Keeper Gloves to stink. Not bad, but you know, I want them to have that old sweat smell inside.
  • My socks have to match the jersey color, unless I'm wearing Grey, then black or white socks are ok.
  • If I'm not wearing a short sleve jersey then I pull my sleves up just under my elbows, and let the extra fabric hang back down my forewarms.
  • Black shorts or black pants ONLY.
  • If I'm not wearing my ADIDAS Copa Mundial boots then I won't hit my goal kicks and punts well.
  • I spit on my gloves all the time.
  • If I'm quiet for more then 90 seconds, I'm not doing my job. I basically don't shut up for 90 minutes. Constantly giving support or directions to put my teammates in better position to do their jobs.
Those are just a few things about soccer, not included is vocabulary (I never say Keeper or Goalie when calling a ball, it's always KEEP) as well as others.
