Sandberg completes three game suspension, had disputed opponent bunting with six run lead
Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, manager of the Cubs Class A team in Peoria, Ill, was suspended last Thursday for his role in a bench clearing brawl sparked by a confrontation with Clinton Lumberkings (Texas Rangers) manager Mike Micucci.
Sandberg's suspension, which he completed yesterday, stemmed from an on field "discussion" involving the two managers between the sixth and seventh innings of Peoria's eventual 7-3 loss to Clinton on Thursday.
Sandberg was visibly angry after a Clinton player attempted to bunt in their half of the sixth inning, who were ahead at the time, 6-0.
Said Cubs Player Development Director, Oneri Fleita, "It was verbal situation, nothing more, it's not a big deal to me. Defending his players is what a manager is supposed to do."
Baseball Unwritten Rule #13..Do not bunt when ahead by five runs or more.
