Rushing the Floor

What is your opinion on fans storming the basketball court? I've noticed that the SEC doesn't allow it, and I think it's ridiculous. It's a college basketball tradition, and even for a while there, an NBA tradition when you win the championship.

Are you against fans storming the court? Are you for it? Have you done it?

storming the court/field is great, but only if its a big game or the game is extra meaningful... like if an unranked opponent knocks of the number 3 seed or something... otherwise storming the court loses its meaning

An overzealous lawsuit happy society is the culprit towards eliminating a tradition such as this one.

It's trespassing!!!

Plus it can put unneccessary wear on the playing surface.

People should stay in the stands chucking batteries and flicking flame hot coins at the players like everyone else.

Geez, another complaint. I've never heard people whine about this until now. This is a tradition and it's done all over the country, especially when you knock off a ranked opponent. What the hell is wrong with rushing the floor? It happens in college football. It really isn't any different. All your doing is just showing emotion for your team.

The playing surface is much more susceptible to damage from street shoes than a football or baseball field would be.

When I played last year in Atlanta and after we won against Norcross (our rivals), the fans went bananas and rushed the floor. I loved seeing it. Is it wrong to do in high school because if its not, there's nothing wrong with it in college.

I use to love it in High School b-ball. Knocking off the cross town rival in last second dramatic fashion. Knocking off a state ranked team, major playoff wins. It's a fun tradition.

I have a major problem with storming the court after a game. You simply cannot allow hundreds of unauthorized people to have free range of the court. The situation can get out of hand in a hurry. And all it takes is one a-hole to incite a major incident. You get a group of a-holes, surrounded by throngs of people, and some bad stuff can happen. Then there's the problem of people stampeding over each other to get to the court. That's a whole other bag of worms.

But the biggest reason I'm against storming the court is: the visiting team and referees are still on the floor. At BC, and I'm sure at most other colleges, the visiting team and officials are the most protected people in the building. Allowing hundreds of fans (mostly students) onto the floor with them countermands this protective policy.

As a fan, storming the court may be fun, and 99.999% of times nothing bad will happen. But it increases the likelihood of something happening. And if not being able to run on the court ruins your experience when your team just had a major win, then you're a pretty crappy fan.

Finally, I think there are a lot of games that rushing the floor is uncalled for, but fans do it anyway, just to do it.

Well it depends on the venue, too. BC's Conte Forum is pretty big, 8,000 seats for basketball. But there are a lot of courts that are simply gymnasiums with bleachers and fans walking across the court after the game is over anyway. I'm sure a great many courts allow any fan on the floor before or after the game. At BC, we don't, you have to have floor tickets to get down there. But if you're gonna let them walk on the floor, you'd mind as well let them rush it.

In all seriousness I always get a laugh when fans rush to the greens in golf or jump in the water to collect a ball. Stuff like that. Cracks me up. And what do you mean by an air race? What is that? Like a hot air balloon race? When I was a kid I raced up a tree at night to touch the stars..... broke my arm.

I looked up who actually watches "Aqua Teen Hunger Force". According to Wikipedia statistics show that young male adults, ages 16-25, virgins, who have never had a girlfriend, and still live at home, make up 100% of the viewing audience. Friends consists of mom, dad, pet dog or cat, and the many friends on the internet.

"but Frank, you remind me of this guy:" The Wisdom Cube claims to hold all the known knowledge in the universe, but it seems he only possesses a knack for tiresome anecdotes. Frylock has his doubts if this is all for real.

And I prefer turd sandwich.
