New Improved Snooker Coverage
I would like to offer you the opportunity to join the Snooker "project" on ArmchairGM.
Since Christmas, the whole section of the site has changed:
- A new main page was made as a replacement for the old one.
- The entire history of the World Snooker Championship was added. Now, if your heart desires, you can see who won the epic 1975 World Snooker Championship Final between Ray Reardon and Eddie Charlton. I haven't described on the page why it was epic however...
- Being built currently is the 2007/2008 Snooker season page. It has a lot of the tournaments, which I still need to make look good. It also has a lot of the 2007/2008 tournament trees too. They too, are being added. The Category:Snooker Tournaments is strong.
- Detailed World Rankings for every season. The 2007 edition can be seen here.
However, I would like to:
- Add player profiles to a higher standard. I tried to with Stephen Hendry, but I got over excited and added to many videos. And now I can't do anything about it until a Founder sorts it out.
- Add amateur events to the season page. The main difference between amateur and pro events is that all amateur events have group stages, but that isn't necessarily a problem. There is still a knockout element, see 2007 EBSA European Snooker Championship, for instance.
- Whilst the 2007/2008 Snooker season is coming on strong, I'd like to create a similar page for other seasons, which would be dated back to the late 70s. Again, that shouldn't take too much effort.
- I need to write blurbs for these tournaments; I'm missing a lot of information about them currently.
So, how can anybody else help? Well, as Romiezzo will testify, adding Snooker Tournaments is relatively easy. What's more, it enables you to understand snooker a bit more, so you will be learning another game.
The only "qualifications" you require would be the ability to use copy the Tournament Brackets format used on other tournaments and manipulate them. You need no prior knowledge of snooker.
There are two sources:
GSC is good for amateur events, whereas World Snooker is good for pro stuff.
As you can see, there is a detailed plan of things to happen.
If snooker doesn't take your fancy, DNL is always looking out for other people to aid with projects, take the 2008 NFL Draft prospect project. Alternatively, take a look at Category:Projects for other things you can help with on AGM.
If you would like to take part in any project (but especially snooker!), let me know in the comments.
