Mark "The Bird" Fidrych Killed in Apparent Accident

Wow, Mark Fidrych dead at 54 of an apparent accident at his home in Massachusetts.

Not since 1989 (before I was born) can I think of a worse stretch for baseball and for sports in general. Just 20 years ago, Bart Giamatti died of a heart attack, we had the Loma Prieta earthquake during the World Series, and Billy Martin was killed on Christmas Day. In 2009, Nick Adenhart, Harry Kalas, and now Mark Fidrych have all left us within 5 days.

This is a truly sad day indeed.

RIP The Bird

All of these deaths are given to us at once. It's a shame. A real shame. It makes me ask myself "Why?" RIP, The Bird.

I'll always remember him for this quote:
"Sometimes I get lazy and let the dishes stack up, but they don't stack too high. I've only got four dishes."
