Manny Dealt to the Dodgers

Posted by BigPPup

Manny is on the move, and this time I am sure of it. Manny is going to the Dodgers as part of a three team deal.

The deal means Manny is going across the country. The Pittsburgh Pirates pick up Andy LaRoche and a right handed pitcher.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm...kind of baffled. Don't really know what to say.

All I know is that the Red Sox were distracted. There was no guarantee he was going to play hard down the stretch. Two months of will he or won't he play hard wasn't worth it to Theo. Statistically, he and Jason Bay are having similar seasons. Who knows how Bay will do under pressure in Boston.

Overall, they did what they had to do. Good luck to Manny...thanks for the memories.

Jason Bay is a good player buried in obscurity in Pittsburgh's sad sack lineup. Surrounded by JD Drew and Lowell and Papi, he's going to explode. And he's a nice guy, and gives 100% all the time, something Manny hasn't done in, like, ever.

I think a team leading the Wild Card has a solid shot at winning the World Series. Nowhere near a sure thing, but infinitely more of a chance than "zero."

Everyone wins in this deal. Pittsburgh got some good prospects, LA got Manny for peanuts, and the Red Sox got rid of a major problem.

The Sox players voted 24 to 1 last night to trade Manny. Considering how necessary this deal was, getting Bay is a pretty good outcome for the Sox.

I'm fairly glad I had a little talk with my buddy the yankees fan...

Because i just talked to him again and he confirmed what I already expected (and we discussed a week ago)...that once manny was traded many (might I add stupid) red sox fans would suggest things such as "Good Riddance" or "he can be replaced"

Fact of the matter is, the Red Sox are not a better team than they were yesterday...

Look, a guy like manny would never survive in Philly and I personally don't like him...But he's a future HoFer...and he's already significantly added to 2 world series teams...for sox fans (some of you...not all) to turn on him like this is just disgusting

Tony Maseroti said it perfectly in an interview on SportsCenter. On the field, Manny is one of the best hitters ever, let alone one of the best Red Sox ever. But off the field, he's one of the worst Red Sox ever. This team desperately wanted him to go. The players demanded that he go. I don't have any disdain or dislike for him. I probably wouldn't boo him in a Sox/Dodgers game. But he had to go.

On paper, the Red Sox got a little worse today. And Brandon Moss could have been used to trade for some much needed bullpen help. But Manny simply had to go. Fantasy baseball wise, Manny for Bay is a horrible deal. But so wasn't Garciaparra for Cabrera in 2004.

I think it's sort of a straw that broke the camel's back thing. Before the last few days, his antics have been tolerated. People hated him in 2006 when he took September off, but they win the World Series in '07 so they keep they tolerate it.

Manny being Manny is A-OK so long as the Sox are being winners. If this team had been winning the past week or so while this was going on, people would be fine with Manny and his BS.

And you have to hand it to the Red Sox, they know how to use media leaks (like this 24-1 stuff) in order to make exiting players look bad.

Any Red Sox fan who tells Manny good riddance is either remarkably dumb or born after the 2007 World Series. If they can't recognize he basically brought and helped the franchise into one of its greatest periods, they suck.

The whole thing with Red Sox controlling Manny or letting it go on for too long...I don't know. Manny's an adult, it's not like he's a little kid who can go in time out (they probably could have done this in some form, but chose not to). It's not like in football, where the coach has a more direct influence on the players (ie: the Bengals and Marvin Lewis). Could they have disciplined him? Yeah. Would it have drastically helped? I doubt it. There's only so much you do to a grown man.

Jacoby Ellsbury can get away with anything because he's a rookie (He'll get bettah! I sweah!) and has charmed the pants off of every female (and some male) Red Sox fan. Not someone making 10 million a year who looks like a rodent.

Kelsdad, I know your baseball experience, and there's no doubt you know more about the game than I do. But that doesn't mean shit in an argument. If you have a reason why you think Brandon Moss won't be a good player, even if its just a gut feeling, then fine. But an argument supported by "because I know more than you" is pretty hollow, and extremely childish. At least you're consistent.

And don't worry, one day you'll reach that 2%. Just keep trying.

First of all, Manny spent the first eight years of his career in Cleveland, so, to a Yankee fan, he's an Indian, not a Red Sox. He just made another eight year pitstop on his way home. Manny grew up two blocks from Yankee Stadium, since his first day in the league he's wanted to be a Yankee. It's almost a no-brainer he signs with the Yankees. With Cabrera, Giambi and Abreu almost certain to be gone, and with Xavier Nady's best position being RF, Manny could platoon in left with Damon and DH full time.

He was the piece going to Seattle for Jarrod Washburn. As we've been talking about elsewhere, the deal didn't go thru because the Mariners insisted not only on the Yankees picking up the rest of his deal, which included the option for next year, which they didn't want to do. The Mariners then asked for the Yankees to pay his buyout share, which I believe was 1.2 million, again, they said no. Deal off. The Yankees could trade Cabrera to the Phillies for two dozen cheesesteaks and get the better end of the deal.

I would say probably. I think Manny will take a discount to sign with the Yankees, but he'll primarily DH. I also think the Yankees will make a big push for Teixeira, although he has said he has no interest in playing in New York. Adam Dunn has also said he has no interest in playing in New York, so Burrell is the next logical choice. I like Pat, and I think he would do well in New York.
