Longhorns

you would think after winning a national championship with vince young the horns would be looking for the next athlete to play QB. they were given the formula and they went back to the small skinny kid who can throw a little but is about as mobile as a cement truck.

Are you talking about Colt McCoy - or rather, what the hell are you talking about?

yes colt mccoy. do the longhorns have another skinny non mobile QB. they had it right when they put an athletic QB back there to take snaps. an athlete makes an average line better. makes a defense less aggressive. balances the offense. allows speed to make plays in space. there is not a DC in the big 12 that is scared of colt mccoy running.

crackajg when you live in Texas football is a year around sport. when you live in austin the longhorn football is year around news. sorry i didn't explain better. austin sport talk were discussing 2010. yes that right 2010 recruiting. i should have made that clear.

They do have another athlete at QB, two in fact: John Chiles and Sherrod Harris. Problem is, right now Colt is better. Do you really think it is that easy to replace arguably the greatest running QB in college football history?

And by the way, 6-3, 210 is hardly the measurements of a "small, skinny kid".

6'3 210 lbs is skinny. you got to be kidding me. isn't colt a son of a coach. he is a junior in college and he is the same size as high school tight end. 4 years in high school where you have keys to the weight room. 3 years in a college program and you weigh 210lbs. he's fragile at best. i don't care what they list him at he is no where near 210lbs. have you seen a high school game in texas Taytay?

He may not of put on his 10 lbs of "man weight" yet but he's certainly on par for his age, height and ability size-wise.

Yes I have seen high school football in Texas. I went to a powerhouse school and attended multiple state championship games.

As for attacking LA on the height/weight issue: you brought it up, all the two of us have done is point out that you are wrong. No one has reduced your argument to QB size, but that was part of your argument, and LA has given you several NFL QBs that are roughly the same size as Colt. There may be a talent gap there, but that wasn't his point: merely that his size is not the problem.

As for the rest of your argument, I'll repeat what I said earlier, which you have not yet addressed: Texas does have mobile QBs on the roster, but right now, Colt is better, and gives them a better chance to win. Do you really think it is that easy to replace arguably the greatest running QB in college football history?

Some NFL QBs Height and Weight:
  • John Beck: 6 foot 2 216lbs
  • Kyle Boller: 6 foot 3 220lbs
  • Drew Brees: 6 foot 0 209lbs
  • Charlie Fyre: 6 foot 4 219lbs
  • Jon Kitna: 6 foot 2 220lbs
  • J.P. Losman: 6 foot 2 213lbs
  • Aaron Rogers: 6 foot 2 215lbs
  • Tony Romo: 6 foot 2 224lbs
What's your point? That Colt McCoy has NFL size? He's comparable to plenty of solid NFL QBs size wise.

he is not 6'3" 210 lbs. i don't care what he is listed at. i would be shocked if he was over 200lbs. seen him up close at the longhorn spring practice. very slight. i wasn't talking about NFL. size wise you can compare my next door neighbor to an nfl QB. takes talent to play in the league. alot of talent and work to stay in the league. there is a huge difference in the worst QB you have listed and colt mccoy.

Okay so you agree above that he is 6'3" 210, and not his measurements are off? So are you contradicting yourself? Or were you confused before and you believe that your eyes are more accurate then a scale and tape measure?

the whole argument was that the longhorns need a more athletic QB. you have reduced it that i am arguing size. who care how big he is. he doesn't move well at all and he is not very big. he could not take shots last year and missed time because he is a sitting duck in the pocket. you want to pick apart my arguement you should stick to spelling.

Hold on, hold on - you're picking on my spelling when your spelling and grammar would leave much to be desired for a 12 year old? You should stick to picking an argument, and should be picky with who you choose to pick an argument with because so far you've made non-points about non-issues.

I read somewhere that Chiles was one of the fastest players they had, at any position. Are you advocating Mack Brown starting him, Smitty? Because I've heard lots of Vince Young comparisons surrounding him.

Either way, Texas should be more concerned about their defense than who's playing QB. That D has slipped a bit in recent seasons.

i am not a longhorn fan. i live in the austin area and you are bombarded with the longhorns day in and day out. this is just an observation i have made the last 10 years about the longhorns.

if chiles put more pressure on the defense i would start him. look at what west virgina did. pat white only threw for 1700 yards. he rushed for 1300. if you are a defensive coordinator who would you rather face? a one demensional QB, or a run / pass threat. WV passing scheme consists of 4 verticals and smash concept.

i will say this. i saw vince in high school and in college. he bailed them out of alot of bad situations with his speed and agility.

It's definitely true that the spread option can be the great equalizer if you have a mobile OL and a smart, fast QB with some passing ability too.

settle down LA.. i was making fun of my own spelling and grammar. non point and non issues? huh... isn't the QB position an issue on every team, at every level in america? i guess ehight and weight are more your issues in LA. maybe instead of tearing down someone point of view you should contribute and offer your insite to the conversation that actually is more intelligent then spelling and grammar.

Well, I'm pretty excited about the new option we're installing here at Georgia Tech. We've got a kid by the name of Josh Nesbitt who can really run, and we've had some of our best success in recent years (National Championship 1990, 2 wins over Georgia & 2 New Year's Day bowls in 1998-99) with mobile QBs in the option, like Shawn Jones and Joe Hamilton. Hopefully Nesbitt will be more like them than Reggie Ball...

your new coach at tech is awesome! I am really looking forward to what they will do with their offense with highly recruited athletes. i will be willing to guess that Georgia Tech will wreck shop with that offense. they should light up the ACC. VT and clemson are going to be tough. miami will be better. i think they have a good shot at winning the costal division in the ACC.
