How a Group of 13 Year Olds Kicked Made Us Look Like Children

For the last eight weeks, those of us who started this site have been implementing the same features on Wikia's Halo website, Halopedia. About a week or so ago, a lot of stuff that is passe for the AGM community -- blogs, polls, quiz game, etc. -- was given to Halopedia.

Almost immediately, the users -- both lurkers and otherwise -- created polls. Thousands of them. And a lot of them were off-topic, stupid, or downright offensive.

Within a week, this happened:

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halopedia:Poll_and_Quiz_Policy

An honest-to-god, community drafted and executed policy. It's beautiful. I didn't have to write it; I didn't have to force it down people's throats; I don't have to execute on it. My reasons for not wanted to do so are simple: It's not good for the community if I or the other founders play despot.

I'd like to see AGM do the same where needed here. I can't make that happen, of course, but I think it's a good idea, and I'm sure most of you agree.

"like" children?

I'm down with those rules for the most part but please let me keep my ability to self-promote! That's harsh!

Oh! The humanity!!!

Shouldn't someone just change "Halo" to "Sports"?

Awwww... But dicks have the MOST fun!?!?!?

I'm all for policies, I suppose but damn, do I like personal responsibility MUCH MORE.

I can understand why behavior is a priority in a gaming community, but the rules should be a TAD more loose for fans of sports teams - talking trash is elemental in fanship and let's face it, a community without personal attacks on Yankees and/or Red Sox fans is simply no fun...

If we can drill the point home that regardless of allegiances and personal differences our goal as a community should be to further the COMMUNITY, we can't lose.

Is SPORTS too much to ask?

The point isn't what the rules say. The point is that they drafted rules instead of flame-waring each other off the site.

You know, I was being facetious... I like to be that on occasion.

I just think that if people aren't here for the purpose of Sports, fanship, journalism or some aspect of that nature - they are in the wrong forum and should politely go elsewhere.

It's not that difficult to figure out. Add, don't subtract.

I came here for the sportswriting and stayed to hone my writing skills and to expand my experiences as a journalist. Most users I feel are like myself. They want to give to the community or at least improve their own talents.

I seriously question the reasoning and motivation of why others come here... especially when there are more appropriate venues available than a community trying to forge it's way into a realm that is still in it's infancy stage.

One day, regardless of stigmas, preconceptions and general disdain for new, fresh ideas by the "established media" AGM can have a footprint in the mediasphere - or so I hoped...

My dream since joining day one was to help make this site a legitimate force in the sports journalism world - I feel like I have merely scratched the surface and failed HORRIBLY at the same time...

The name I tried so hard to establish has been denigrated by my own willingness to wrestle with mental midgets and sling mud with trolls. I have no one to blame and can understand why anyone would hate me...
