Hernandez slams Johan, then leaves with injury
Felix Hernandez hit the first pitch he saw from Johan Santana tonite over the right center field wall in Shea Stadium for a grand slam homer in the Mariners victory over the Mets. Hernandez would later leave the game with an injury, spiked by Carlos Beltran while covering home following a wild pitch.
Hernandez' homer was the first by a Mariners pitcher in franchise history, and the first grand slam by an American League pitcher since Steve Dunning of the Cleveland Indians connected against the Oakland Athletics on May, 11, 1971.
