Help Pressure NiteOwls local TV News into Helping Out... Here's How!

Posted by LASportsblog

Hey everyone,

We all want to help Andrew Godfrey and pitch in, but throwing money at the situation isn't realistic for many of us. So here is an alternate way to help out!

I e-mailed Andrew's local news station, KALB Channel 5 in Alexandria, LA. I have sent a message to everyone in their station that I think can help the cause. I will post their e-mail addresses below along with the message I sent. If we all flood their inboxes they will feel that the public outcry is enough to do something about it! So let's get to work:

Webmaster: Jeremy Lee - Jlee@kalb.com News Director: Michele Godard - Mgodard@kalb.com General Manager: Les Golmon - Lgolmon@kalb.com Human Resources: Shannon Tassin - Stassin@kalb.com Managing Editor: Eric Marshall - Emarshall@kalb.com Weekday Anchor: Dale Hoffman - Dhoffman@kalb.com Sports Director: Mark Hamblen - Mhamblen@kalb.com Evening Producer: Tamara Carter - Tcarter@kalb.com

To anyone this may concernm,

My name is Nate Gordon and I write the L.A. Sports Blog as well as a couple of other freelance sports writings in the L.A. Area. A colleage of mine, Andrew Godfrey lives in Pineville, LA and is a freelance baseball writer as well as a Vietnam Vet. I recieved the following message from a writer in Chicago and any asstiance or attention you can bring to this situation in your local area would be greatly apperciated. Andrew is a good man who risked his life for our country, the least we can do is a put a little pressure on a landlord sleezy enough to evicted a veteran on Thanksgiving. God bless and thank you for your time and consideration.

Happy Thanksgiving Nate Gordon LAFanblog.blogspot.com

(Message sent to me from Tyrone Briggs, forwarded from italics words of Andrew Godfrey) Notice Yesterday we were served with an eviction notice with 48 hours to pay or move out of our apartment. Just in case we can't come up with the money I wanted to let the readers know what happened if there are no more posts forthcoming from Baseball Etcetera.

If we cannot come up with the money by tomorrow we may be forced to move out with only the barest necessities. If there are no more posts I want to thank everyone for reading Baseball Etcetera which started in May of 2004.

May God bless each reader if we are unable to write again. There is still a slim chance of not being evicted but as of today the future looks very bleak.

Thank you for understanding,

Andrew

It is my belief that a purpose of ArmchairGM was to help nurture and cultivate new writers with the hopes and aspirations of one day becoming a professional journalist.

For some of us, including myself, that is not a reality. However, Andrew Godfrey has an ability to concisely articulate the current sports' scene (especially towards baseball) with statistical supporting evidence along with drawing upon a lifetime of experience.

In his time here at ArmchairGM, Andrew has been an invaluable member to our community. He needs our help now. Yes, it is Thanksgiving and perhaps not the most convenient timing for our own personal family celebrations and holiday festivities. But take a moment and just imagine yourself in his position right now facing a 48 hour eviction notice just received the day before Thanksgiving.

We can help.

The following link provides all of Andrew's work here at the 'Chair: http://www.armchairgm.com/Category:Opinions_by_User_Niteowl049

As you can well see, it is quite impressive in quantity and quality. Andrew would be an asset for any sports blog looking for a columnist to provide its readership an accurate recap of the previous day's sporting activities along with insightful commentary.

For those curious about his past, please read the following:

Served in Hawaii and Vietnam with the 25th Administration Company of the 25th Infantry Division from June 1963 till May 1966 as a postal clerk. Retired newspaper production worker having worked 36 years for Alexandria, Louisiana Town Talk. Have been fortunate enough to see Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Ted Williams in baseball games in Kansas City back in the 60' s.Also have seen Elvis Presley, Beach Boys,Righteous Brothers, Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn,Merle Haggard, Buck Owens,Johnny Cash and seen Julie Newmar, Stefanie Powers and Sue Thompson in person. Enjoy southern gospel music especially the Dove Brothers Quartet. Like listening to old time radio shows from the 30's, 40's and 50's and like easy listening music by Diana Krall and Frank Sinatra. Emails can be sent to Niteowl049@msn.com

When his country called upon him, Andrew gladly served his country. For some of the younger readers here at the ArmchairGM (and Cyberspace in general), that may or may not be fully appreciated. However to some of us older folks, that selfless act of courage and bravery will never be forgotten nor unappreciated. Plain and simple, Mr. Godfrey deserves a shot. If you are reading this message (because many of us here at the 'Chair are hopeful that this message will reach several message boards, sports blogs and websites) and are in a position to make a difference for a person overdue for an opportunity, Andrew is your man.

In the following comment section below, please post why Andrew Godfrey (aka Niteowl049) deserves his moment to shine. Think carefully before you type. Your words will have a dramatic impact upon a reader deciding whether or not to provide Andrew his rightful opportunity. And be fully aware that this is not a trite matter of fulfilling some personal quest. The man is in need of emergency assistance of real life financial difficulties with a consequence of not even having a roof over his head tonight.

Think about it. And do the right thing.

Just take a look at his articles/opinions. They're amazing. He takes a lot of thought in putting these articles in AGM and helping us know more about current baseball issues fasters. He contributes quite a lot to the site, and we need him.

When I first created my username here at ArmChair GM, I didn't know who anyone was besides the person who recruited me (DNL, but that's beside the point). As soon as I got on the site, I found an article written by Niteowl (Godfrey). It was one of the many articles that the man wrote in a series of articles called the baseball notebook. I don't know why, but I became inspired, that's right, I became inspired by Niteowl's contributions and he contacted me here and there and made me feel welcome. I never loved AGM more than when he posted his latest episode of the Baseball Notebook. I couldn't wait to read it and see what happened. Since I live in Kuwait, and don't get the newspaper sent to me, I need a certain source to get the info I need to talk to people. Well, the first thing I use is now ArmChair GM, since Niteowl wrote his amazing stuff, and took the time to write these without even getting paid for it. His desire to just write articles for us and entertain us with his work is just flattering, and that is why we need him back.

It kinda sucks that this happened on T-Day. For more than the obvious reason - Most people are too busy to get on the 'net and join the action.

I gotta go do the party thing, myself.

Godspeed, peace and good tidings to you all. We're gonna get something done for Mr Godfrey, dammit!

Frank - hi there, yes spelling is obviously important but I think the message is even more critical. A lot of guys here have been working on behalf of NiteOwl despite the hustle/bustle of today's holiday. Hell, some have been using cell phones for text messages to convey information. FP wrote a very sincere letter. Thanks for catching the error and I'm sure others will be sure to correct for the minor slip out.

Frank, I was writing at 8:10 am, at work, on a bad wireless keyboard, for someone I've never met. I would consider the gesture itself noble enough that I took time out of working, on Thanksgiving to do such a thing. I know how to write, I'm quite competent and basically in too many words I'm telling you - fuck you, you ass. I don't even care about your response because your lack of context is pretty appaling.

You know, usually I stand on your side of the don't be insulted arena Frank, but today, nah. I put too much time into getting this message in front of hundreds of different eyes and I won't apoligize if that brings me emotion. I'm not sorry, fuck you twice for expecting me to apoligize and if you ask me to say I'm sorry again I'll say fuck you a third time. Accept that it's my position and that I have no time to explain to you why it's a sensitive subject for me so Happy Thanksgiving and go enjoy your family.

I count 16 AGM members who have already sent in e-mails. This is very good, if we can get into the 25-30 range that is more then unaviodable for a tiny market like Alexanderia, LA. With all those different people in the network being annyoed by our mass message they will surely have to at least discuss the situation and hopefully they look into their hearts and find a way to contribute.

I e-mailed the Vietnam Veterans of America a message that was as personal as I could make it for a guy I hardly know. I think we can agree it's more a matter of principle than anything else. If you go to the website www.vva.org you'll see the contact page. I messaged the government affairs and benefits names at veteransbenefits@vva.org and govaffairs@vva.org. If anyone wishes to see the letter I can post it in the locker room or as an article...I just don't want to take away from the previous posts on this subject by reposting another one.
