Has anyone done this?

I got an email from TeamFanShop.com that said:

"Would you be interested in an affiliate partnership with footballfanatics.com?

We would create an online store for you and pay you a commission of everything that store sells.

It is free on your end and would only take a day to set up. Please let me know if you would like more information."

I said I wanted more info and recieved:

"Matt,

We are offering this service to bloggers because we know a lot of them do it as a passion and this gives them a way to monetize their site.

We’ll do everything for you and all you have to do is link to your store and start making money.

Check out Capstonereport.com and see if that is something you would be interested in.

We have over 1,000 affiliates and are signing up more and more each day.

I’ve attached the agreement we have with all of our affiliates and the contact sheet we need you to fill out.

By sending back the contact sheet you are agreeing to the terms set forth in the agreement.

Once we get that back we can have a store ready for you that day. Let me know if there are anymore questions you may have?

Thanks, Jeff Chandler Business Development Associate

I think I've spoken w/them before. I get emails like that a lot, and they're typically legit, but you'll make about $1.50 a year.

given dan's knowledge, unless you have to give them personal info (although one would assume you'd need to provide a social for a W-2), i'd say, what have you got to lose... Of course, i'm also talking out my ass...

Talking out my arse: Affiliate programs are a necessary evil, it's a matter of picking ones that actually make sense for you, your readers, and the affiliate. $1.50 ain't bad x10,000 but do you want 10,000 stupid affiliate links on your site? There is a number, different for everyone, that will work and if you send them enough traffic then it's worth your while.

For example, in 5 minutes I can find over 100 Amazon affiliates. That's just silly, who doesn't know amazon already? Who is actually go to go there through NPR instead of just typing amazon.com? But so many websites do it that it's got to be effective enough for them to do it.

Web business is quite silly, but it takes a while to master from what I'm gathering.  ;)

I work for a company that effectivly does the exact same thing as this. Its nothing more than a simple affiliate program. I use one on my personal blog and a different one on my personal web site. Honestly if you want to use one go to linkshare. Or better yet go to Voxant.com and that way you can at least get relivent content ot post to your blog. The thing with affiliate programs is they will guarantee you a CPM, but it is typically little to nothing, and the only ways to increase those numbers for the average blogger is through illegal ways. If you have more questions about monitizing your blog or your web site feel free to contact me.

It can't hurt to do it, but like what Dan said before -- your going to make about $1.50 a year from it.

Absolutely, positively steer clear of paying for Google Adwords or anything to get traffic. You know when you type a search into Google and you see the Sponsored links on the right? People 'bid' a certain amount for every click on their ad -- if done correctly, like with other affiliate programs, it can equal a nice return. But with online stores like your setting up -- the conversion rate is abysmal.. less than 2%. So you'd be paying about a dollar a click, but you'd spend $100 on 100 clicks, then convert about two of them. After commission you might make about $20, effectively losing $80.

Sorry for this being so long, just steer away from paying per click ads in regards to online stores.
