Georgia Dominating Early

Posted by Behbigben15

Game two in the 2008 CWS has been all Georgia thus far. They currently hold a 5-0 lead, but it's still early (bottom of the third inning). Fresno State's pitching will have to step up, and try to limit the powerful Georgia lineup if they want to extend the series to tomorrow night.

...And Fresno State finally gets on the board on a passed ball thrown by Nick Montgomery.

They are still threatening after a one out, two-RBI single. It is now 5-3, and Montgomery may be coming out of the game after a disastrous third inning.

Yup...Stephen Dodson enters the game to pitch in place of Montgomery. Never a good sign when your starting pitcher fails to complete even three innings.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! What a game...Tommy Mendonca shows off his power with a towering three-run shot off Dodson's delivery. His 19th homer, which gives Fresno State the 1-run lead!!

This certainly has been a College World Series to remember. The best college player in the nation (and his team), facing off against the cinderella team in the Championship. This series very well could go in three games.

Matt Olson nearly ties the game back up at 6 apiece. In fact, he was just a few feet from it. Georgia is now threatening with Gordon Beckham at the plate with a runner on second. I think Beckham will be fantastic in the Majors in the near future.

Beckham, who could help the White Sox NOW, hits Olson in with an RBI single...And just like that, Georgia ties the game back up.

See, I kept telling Manny that his boy wasn't even the best shortstop in the draft named Beckham.

Well, maybe I should change the title now. Fresno State has turned the tables on Georgia, hoping for a game three. UPDATE: Top of the fifth, 11-6 Fresno State. Sophmore David Thoms is up for Georgia.

If Georgia wants to get back in this game they can't be stranded baserunners like they just did. You've gotta take advantage when you have two runners on.

I can't say that I've ever seen a baseball catcher wear a QB wrist band like the one Georgia's Bryce Massanari is wearing.

The underdog continues to pile on. One more run comes in on an RBI single off the bat of Gavin Hedstrom. Runners on second and third with no outs, as Erik Wetzel makes his way to the plate. Wetzel is 1 for 2 with an RBI thus far tonight.

An unbelievable FIVE earned runs have been allowed by each of the three Georgia pitchers as the fifth inning finally ends on a liner caught by the second baseman, Thoms. Georgia needs to settle down, and bring their bats back out.

Nice start to the sixth for Georgia's fourth pitcher, Justin Grimm. He struck out the first two batters.

The .173 hitter gets a pinch-hit RBI single which cuts the lead to eight in the 7th. And after a David Thoms base-hit the bases are loaded!

Pitching change for Fresno State...Jake Hower will be the new pitcher, who hasn't pitched in over a month.

BIG mistake on the first baseman Alan Ahmady's part. He hits the runner trying to get a DP, and Beckham is up with the bases juiced with one out. One swing of the bat can make it just a three-run ballgame.

What did you think of that game BBB15? Just blew your sweep idea out of the water. Tomorrow should be a great game!

I thought it was a very good game, and yes, tomorrow's game three should be just as good. But, I'm still gonna go with Gordon Beckham and his Bulldogs. I agree with what Kelsdad said above...I think Gordon Beckham will be a much better pro than Tim. The White Sox haven't had a decent shortstop in years, although I must say Orlando Cabrera is having a better year than I expected. He is just two measly HR's shy of his 2007 total, which was 8. And keep in mind that he played 155 games last year...He obviously doesn't hit for power.
