Flawed BCS

The BCS. What a disgrace. If Missouri is the best team in the NCAA then the system is flawed! They might be a 4th place team in the SEC division. They might beat Kentucky. Their biggest win came against the the 3rd best big 10 team (Illini) I have nothing against U of Missouri. The system is BAD. The crowning of the best team will not happen this year. No one knows who the best team is or will be. Come mid January, LSU might will be healthy and probably the best team. I have yet to read or anything positive about the BCS deciding a national champ. Some years they get lucky and there are 2 undefeated teams. I think the best way would be to have 10 teams with a similar format to the NFL play-offs. Keep the minor bowls for TV revenue. The major bowls rotate each year to what round in the play off they are. I can't believe that they think this is good. If college football is a business and it is, then they stand to make more money with a playoff system then the BCS.

But if we had a playoff, we wouldn't be able to debate about things like this.

Then no team is, except the ENTIRE SEC! GOD'S FOOTBALL CONFERENCE!

Sorry I'm dumb, the SEC pwn's all college football. The Winner of the LSU-Tennessee game should just be crowned the National Champion. My apologies. Screw the BCS, screw the playoff all we need is the SEC Championship Game. At least Dr. Pepper is smart enough to know this!

(for the sarcastically challenged, I was being sarcastic)

I agree with Pip. I've made it clear that I'm no BCS supporter, either, but it's not because an SEC team won't be playing for the National Championship. Screw the SEC. LSU is a great team, but they have a fatal flaw--they lose every time they are ranked number one. They were given two chances this year and blew them both. I don't feel sorry for them or the rest of the SEC at all.

pip it is obvious that you really don't understand the caliber of football played in the SEC. The freaks that they have that step on the field every saturday is unbelieveable. what you don't understand is that those freaks have to play each other each week. there is more speed on that field then someone from the east coast could comprehend. its not that i am a big SEC fan. i just understand and have watched enough film to know. stick with the world cup. taytay i see you jumped on the longhorn bandwagon. texas is too stupid to recruit an athlete like VY. keep recruiting kids like colt mccoy. he's just the type of athlete that will get yo ua national championship.

I went to Texas, so that hardly qualifies as "jumping on the bandwagon". I'm not sure what you mean by your crack about UT being too stupid to recruit Vince, because, you know, they did. And I lived in Columbia, SC for three years, so I have first hand knowledge of SEC football, and it ain't that great. Don't get me wrong, they play very good football in the SEC, but you and many other SEC fans seem to think that the SEC champ should be automatically named the national champ, and it just doesn't work that way. Get used to it.

Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are all on the east coast. But I would not expect an SEC fan to have that much of a grasp on geography. The fourth best team in the the SEC is not better than any conference winner. We'll see how they do in bowl games this year. Last year they went 6-3, the year before 3-3. If the SEC was that much better than everyone they would have gone undefeated, like the Big East did last year (5-0).

ut doesn't recruit VY typer QB. they would rather have someone like colt mccoy. the coaches at UT have the state of Texas at the finger tips. there are some tremendous athletes playing QB st the high school level, they want some small kid throwing it around. have a clue UT. you won it all with an athlete at QB. "And I lived in Columbia, SC for three years, so I have first hand knowledge of SEC football, and it ain't that great. Don't get me wrong, they play very good football in the SEC" first hand knowledge? it ain't so gret? don't get you wrong? they play good football? you just said it wasn't that great... since you went to texas don't you think you mack brown and his staff should follow the formula that got them a national championship? it starts with an athlete at QB. I'm sure colt mccoy doesn't scare alot of defensive coor. in the big 12 when he pulls the ball down and runs.

Again, you are saying that UT didn't recruit Vince or VY-type players, when they clearly did successfully recruit him. Is Colt McCoy on Vince's level? Of course not--but who is? Vince was a once-in-a-generation player that Texas, or any other school for that matter, will likely never see again. As for the SEC, yes, you heard correctly. The SEC as a whole plays good football. Good is not great. Are there great teams? Yeah, a couple. But there are also some very average teams, not to mention Vandy and Ole Miss. Top to bottom, the SEC looks quite similar to any other conference, and certainly does not deserve a shoe-in to the national championship.

pip. i am not a SEC fan. i just understand the talent level that is at those schools. i'm sure fla. geogia and south carolona all consider themselves in the east. they are in the south. miami recoginized that it needed to get out of the big east. the only reason they got a bcs bid was because of miami. nice game last night by west virgina. the 80's are dead. the only time the big east was a factor in anything was in basketball in the 80's. no one in the east could play the schedule that a sec team plays and win.

The SEC beat up on each othr every single season. Comparing the Big East to the SEC is absolutely ridiculous. Florida made it apparent last year that SEC teams are dominant in almost every facet of the game when they dismantled the "unanimous number one, best team" Ohio State. West Virginia can't beat Pitt, imagine if they had to play LSU or even Kentucky. SEC fans don't automatically think that the winner of the conference should play for a national championship, but to say that football in the SEC isn't that great is absolutely false. You can argue that the SEC isn't the best conference until you're blue in the face, but the fact is, if you watch them play, you know how good the teams are. Not to say there aren't gret teams in the Pac-10, and everywhere in between. Top to bottom, the SEC is the best and everyone knows it. Thats why they have the National Championship right now, and that is why Ohio State fans are giving a huge sigh of relief that an SEC team probably won't make it to the

National Title game.

Either way, we won't have a true National Champion this year. This is a worst nightmare for the BCS this year.

This is a pretty cool article, check it out. http://cfn.s.../706825.html

I never said the SEC wasn't the best this year; in fact, they probably are. But if someone wanted to make a case against them, they could point to the BCS top 10, which includes two teams from the SEC, but three Big XII schools. So it isn't a slam dunk, and it is possible to have a national championship game sans the SEC. LSU squeaked in after beating a very mediocre SEC East rep in Tennessee, but it is not an SEC birthright to be in the national championship game. And you say SEC people don't think that, but I've lived there, and they do, and that was in freaking Columbia, SC. We'll see how things shake out after the bowls, but looking at the scheduling, I would expect the SEC to come out around .500 in their appearances. Hardly dominant.

Growing up in Alabama and now living in Florida, I have a pretty good idea of how SEC fans act. Only the ones that are ignorant expect the SEC to be in the National Title game every year. Fans of the SEC that are knowledgable know better. That being said, LSU squeaked in and Ohio State's trembling because they're going to get smoked again. They can't beat the SEC in bowl games.
