I've always enjoyed Christof's articles, especially the Friday Fryers. Also, when JuT writes, he writes really well. Manny's articles are also in depth and very creative. I don't know who to choose out of those 3.

OK, well... Whose = "belonging to" / Who's = "Who is" or "Who has" You got it right the first time, but not the second - it should be "whose", not "who's" - but I'm too lazy to get the edit points yet not too lazy to make a comment about it!

That's true. DNL and Davis have some great articles that go in depth. I read some of their older articles, and they are some of the best I've seen. Look at Davis' latest article about the top 100 quarterbacks. It is really good. DNL has some really good articles, but I think he's focusing too much on recruits.

Maybe because I know what makes the guy tick, but... I think Manny Stiles is the most original and perhaps too fine a writer for these single serving packets of journalistic mass consumption. Perhaps he should write a book or two!

I mean, LOOK at some of the ideas this guy has come up with!

(Don't forget, he's the most self-promoting, too!)

Being the #1 promoted articles would be a good place to start if you were looking for the so-called "best" writer... Then again, I'm new around here and still trying to figure things out. Once I get this sportswriter out of this mess inside my head and start writing seriously - WATCH OUT!

I've always been partial to Last Row. An original take on everything, even when he mails it in. But that dude is the most underappreciated writer on the site (in my opinion) because too many people have an Old English teacher stuffed up their asses.

I still look at most of you as people with computers, many of whom I have grown to tolerate and - yes, on rare occasion - mildly enjoy! Whereas I am and always have been a writer/creator with a sports addiction (among many other addictions and foibles) I MUST create! Whether you think I'm any good or not, I have yet to have reason to fully commit to this pursuit...

Dare I say, I could "retire" at any moment and never return!

I agree about Lastrow...the first true double-poster...

As far as most promoted articles...i dunno...its all about the ratio of most promoted to total articles...go find that metric...

and the question wasn't the best...its who is your fav...

The best writer IS my favorite!!! And vice versa.

I started to write about sports after HST, Ralph Wiley and Ken Kesey died. If it wasn't for Jayson Stark and Paul Lukas, I would have stopped reading ESPN.com years before I did. Without great people who were writers by trade to read every so often, I just figured I could write better than the crap I was searching so hard to find and getting disappointed.

Let's face it, a severe majority of sports journalists are complete dorks. They make me feel like Ernest Freekin Hemingway in comparison.

Back in the day I used to try to post articles specifically NOT to get promoted! The ratio tells absolutely nothing in quality...

For example, I knew that the net would be slow on July 4th - I think this was one of the funniest pieces I ever did and it never made it to good stuff - they either make it right away or never do. My lowest voted article - deservedly so.

WHO could forget - "BREAKING NEWS" - It's TOO Easy to Get Your Articles Promoted!"

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Dan's probably the most talented writer here (he's a ringer, though!), but he never really writes anymore (like I should talk!)... Besides, I've always enjoyed Manny's stuff more than anybody else's, simply because he's so damn unpredictable (and funny, can't forget that). So bring back the APL, you lazy SOB, and we'll all agree you're our favorite...
