Fack Me!

To all of the users making football player profile changes. Stop what you facking doing.

If you run across a player page that has already been created and it has CFL experience on it, you better continue with the CFL stuff. Don't just delete the non-NFL categories. I worked my ass off to make Armchair GM one of the best sites for up-to-date CFL info, including player pages.

There are now missing categories, player profile pictures, background biography, and other miscellaneous issues to deal with.

In the case of Doug Flutie, does his years as a PRO in the USFL and the CFL not count as PRO experience? Or do we now only count NFL years as the only pro experience?

It REALLY ticks me off to see my work pissed down the drain.

Thecrookedcap, Coreyisarealboy, Roblefko, NFL_Stats_Bot, The_shark, I am a cpcp, Yakob878 and several others have contributed to this problem.

Just pay attention to what you are doing and go back and fix your mistakes.

  • Update - I am going back to make changes, I got messages from most of the users that have worked on the NFL project. My big issue with some of those responses is this: Claims that everything was kept as it was (info, pic, categories) yet there are only two editors of the page. If I didn't change it, then you did!

I thank Coreyisarealboy for going back to make changes on the pages that he worked.

Right now, I am looking at Zeke Moreno. Why put Retired Player and Retired Athletes in Categories section when the GUY IS STILL PLAYING?

Case in point: Doug Flutie. Where is the BC, Calgary, and Toronto info? Thanks to Rob for fixing another page, BTW.

Shit, I'm sorry. I didn't even see the categories. I'll go back and fix anything I messed up.

It is not just the categories and you are not the only culprit. All non-NFL biography information ceases to exist. I have tried to go back and fix the Flutie page, but how many other players do I have to now fix.

I have copied and pasted every bit of biography information I've seen on every player I've done. The Flutie one was the only I must not have done. I cannot speak for the rest of the people on the project, however.

Thanks for going back and fixing your part. I am still mad at others, though.

Maybe we should make everything right by screwing up a bunch of snooker and F1 pages!

May I suggest cricket? Or translating every baseball players name into it's pig latin equivalent?

You start the baseball project, I'll follow you on that. May I suggest you start with the Yankees?

There aren't that many snooker and F1 pages to screw up. :P

I can understand. If you feel like taking out some aggression, I offer to you the college football bowl games to mess up. They need to be updated for this season anyway.

1st - This is the risk you take when you contribute to a wiki

2nd - These are the concsequences to contributing extended time to a wiki database

3rd - The people responsible are dicks (those who made changes and aren't apologizing or fixing their mistakes) but are playing by the rules of the wiki game. Adding false information is wrong, but ommiting information isn't wrong, it's just being a complete asshole, especially when someone else put work into it.

That is fine, if they don't want to fix the mistakes then I will revert all CFL/NFL player pages to their original form and protect the page.

Good idea, I would be pissed myself. Just reminding others of the rules of the game before anyone gets on an "Editing soapbox"

Honestly, the project, if you haven't worked on it, was set up to be a simple, quick change to update the previous look player pages to the new ones.

The problem with this was that the new pages did not include the old categories, and when there is no text on a page, some people may overlook to copy and paste categories. That was the mistake I made.

Rob made it very clear to anyone who contributed to this project that previous bio information should be copied and pasted over. How well that was honored is obviously the problem at hand. It was my fault that I did not think to copy and paste categories and not just bio information.

No, I'll admit I am a part of the problem. I don't think the other people meant to overwrite Erooster's work, either. Several of the users involved are longtime users on this site and know what kind of work is involved with big projects, myself included, and would all hate it as much if their projects were overwritten, no matter how unintentional it may have been.

Do it all over again. You'll earn a bunch of edit points. :P

That's what I'm doing for my (secret) All-Star project, since almost everyone (except for Roblefko probably) deleted the categories I added as well.

If you need any help, just give me a list of players that you want me to add the categories to.

Can you not go to the histories and then copy all the stuff you wrote for each player, and then paste it along with the new stuff? I sympathise with you though; this must be a real kick in the teeth.
