Expect a lot less Stiles on the 'chair for a while - It's a good thing for manny reasons!

I hate you all and I'm leaving forever!!!

Nah, no drama this time. I just have too much going on in the real world (the actual REAL world not the useless MTV show) to waste/enjoy my dwindling precious time here.

Besides an impending move from Arizona to Michigan (no ETA yet - stupid freekin' sucky real estate market) I have also been pursuing another move. A move to the "next level".

That's write... I mean right! Dr Commento is following in the footsteps of AGM pioneer Kenrick Thomas and writing a book! Well, actually attempting four of them to start off (a long story in it's own write, I mean right). But with the efforts of publishers not called "Me".

Journalism is fun and all, but let's face it - journalism is a dirty deed laying on a dirty mattress that never ceases and yet disappears into the wind daily. I want to write words that transcend here and now, then and again. I tried to break into the world of sports journalism in an unorthodox manner and was laughed down on many occasions due to not a lack of talent or creativity but because I haven't had my will destroyed and reformed in the form of the AP style guide.

The local media outlets have regarded me as a jester and blown me off as an ordinary "blogger". They disregarded my whackjobbiness, creativity and boundless energy. So be it. I've got something better in mind...

Books!!!

Why you ask?? Because I go to book stores and see the shelves full of garbage just as much as most journalists are garbage. Because writing books allows me to control my efforts more than journalism and the here and *poof* gone nature of daily reporting. Because I'm basically fucking broke after having the best year of my life - as a retiree/Stay at Home Dad/FREElance journalist and unlike Latrell Sprewell - I have mouths to feed that I actually DO feed personally...

Life would be a better time without greed and money. I have thoroughly enjoyed my existence to date without much greed but this money thing is starting to make me feel things that are probably going to shorten my lifespan if they continue. So I need to grow some greed and go and get mine! I'm gonna grow that greed and chop it down, roll it up and smoke me some greed. I'm gonna be a greedhead and dammit; I'm gonna LOVE it!!!

I knew this day was coming eventually...

Writing is the thing I enjoy the most that any part of society would consider a "marketable skill" - so I decided it was time to "Go for it!"

After freeking out in a drunken stupor the other night about the depressing thoughts of returning to the financial industry for gainful employment, I fired off an eloquent e-mail of pathetic desparation to as many respectful literary agents as I could locate (about 40). Despite selling myself and not any particular book idea (I need to know they understand who they're dealing with a tad) I got quite a few responses in return - "I'm too busy to take on new clients", "You are not a good fit for our agency" and "Not in a million years and only then if you blew me". A certain number of agents responded positively and in-roads were carved.

Now, Manny Stiles has created a minor bidding war (well, THEY don't know it's a bidding war yet) for his creative services and it's time to let the book queries begin!!! WRITE WRITE WRITE WRITE WRITE!!!

So with all of this stuff going on, and only a mere 20-21 waking hours a day to handle such life duties, I decided the one place I could trim the most expendable energy was right here on the beloved 'Chizzy. (Sorry, my music recording is more important)

I will still lurk and pseudo-frequent randomly, but expect less words and more multimedia - I'm saving my words for ME (and my eventual readers)!!! It's on to overtaking Kenrick as AGM's most illustrious author!!! You guys can be "bloggers" all you want - I hate the term and have preferred to be called a "writer". But now I am aiming for "Author"

It sounds so glamorous, eh? (Oh GOD! I am going to be poor for the rest of my life, aren't I?)

My first project is called "Hey blog TROLL! Can we talk about sports now?" then it's on to "How to make only 15,000 comments on a website when it could have easily been 50,000 if I didn't show some restraint" and then "Everything that's NOT wrong about sports (yet)"... how about "Now I can die in a million little pieces - a tale of Rays fandom"???

Just kidding.. two of the projects aren't really even about sports (and one of the sports ideas will remain a secret until it gets published)! And hopefully I can sell two of them and turn to some other ideas I've been sitting on too long...

Sorry, there will be less 7,000 word articles for a while, I'll still post every so often but I'm focusing my energy better now,

It's on to seeking my own foolish destiny!!

I am hoping - if all goes well - I can hit the bookshelves twice before September 2008!!!

Thanks for letting me sharpen my wares of sarcasm, hone my voice with elaborate trash talk and gain enough real confidence to walk in the shoes my big fake ego created.

Now wish me luck or I'll practice santaria on effagies I make to look like your avatars!!!

I am personally torn between my feelings on this sudden news...

First, it is great that you are going out and using your talent to do something productive; something that should better your life. There is little doubt that you would not be successful with your writing because of its uniqueness and originality. Whatever it is you choose to write about, it should turn out magnificent.

On the other hand, ArmchairGM will see a significant decline in comments (both incredibly coercive and unconventionally intriguing... you always make us think about our words, or choice/usage of the words) and amazingly intriguing articles (so many articles and opinions, mostly all topping the front page, and captivating the audience).

Unlike other users could be lead to believe that Manny will never retire for good, I hope (in an odd way) that it is for real this time. Not because I want Manny gone, but because he should be moving onto bigger and better things (not offense to the AGM, but realistically speaking, we all know that Manny has a great talent that should be shared with the world). Of course, when and if he does work on the Chair, I will gladly be responsive to the work.

Yes, I know Manny will still be "around" because you can remove Manny from the chair, but it will always be here for him.

Wherever worlds your words take you to Manny, the best of luck to you. I hope to follow your writing, because you are one of my favorite authors; therefore meaning that you have my support beyond the "blogging networks."

Always remember "Heroes get remembered, but a Legend never dies..."

I have mixed feelings about this too, just like Manny.

First of all, I'm happy that Manny is taking the time to write a book and make a change. No matter what Manny writes, it damn sure is going to be a good book. I'll give you my word, Manny: If you publish a book, I'm buying it. There is no doubt in my mind that Manny will succeed in just about everything he does, especially when it comes to persuasive writing. I'm looking forward to reading what you write, Man.

Just like Falcon, I believe that Manny should move on to bigger and better things. I hate to say it, but there's more to life than just the internet and AGM. Yes, even I'm saying this. It'd be wrong for Manny to just do absolutely nothing. There are so many things that this guy can do in this world, and he has a lot of time left. What I say is "live while you can". Accomplish what you want to accomplish, and follow your dreams.

I'm also happy because I'm a lock in for 3rd place. ;) YESSSSSS! jk.

It will be pretty sad if Manny leaves because we'll be missing a guy who has a great sense of humor, a great writer, and someone that many AGMers look forward to meeting online everyday. Good luck, Manny. You'll definitely be missed... until you come back.

So it's all good) - no questions about Spelloids, no doubts about my husbandry or parenting skills... being a Great HR hitter is better to me than being th all-time career HR leader... You're only as good as your last at bat!!!

People are just gonna have to accept that I'm facked up and wired differently than most humans - most by my DNA, alot by circumstance and happenstance and more by own doings - I like being weerd and unpredictable - too bad I'm just a weerd freek that's fairly predictable...

I'm not going anywhere - yet... and if I do go somewhere - I'll be back home eventually!!!

Ha, good luck with jinxing the World Champs. Seriously though, the Rays are sneaky. You have a lot to be excited about. BTW, now that I'm spending the summer in Florida, I will be making a trip to a Rays/Sox game with a "Desperate for Evan Longoria" sign, and there's nothing you can do to stop me.

Your articles about the Arizona Fall League were first class reporting. You have what it takes to be paid for writing because you know how to interview personalities without being intimidated. I can write all day about baseball players but if I had to interview one I would be a nervous wreck.

You just nailed the reason why I've haven't interviewed any basketball players.

Baseball players don't make me nervous because in my head - I'm as good or better than them - they just got the breaks and opportunities and I didn't or I failed to capitalize when I did. And AFLers aren't imposing to me because, well... they're just 20-22 year old KIDS!

I love baseball - so to talk baseball with people who are in the game is comforting to me.

Basketball players intimidate me a bit because I know they are light years better than me. I am a fan of basketball and don't understand it as well as I do baseball, so my reference point is weaker and easily overwhelmed - but I am gaining ground with the help of my wife, the basketball guru.

The differences between a MLB player and a fringe minor leaguer are really subtle if you think about it - millimeters and hundreths of seconds. The difference between a decent baller and an NBAer is much wider. Of course, with my size I would be a huge, imposing major leaguer while merely an average sized NBAer - that might be part of it.

Also, being a stockbroker and dealing with disgustingly rich people every day taught me that people are never what you imagine them to be - they're just people!

TB, 2 of the 4 are already "written". I just gotta do a ton of editing on those. But the first book proposal I'm pushing is gonna get sent out Monday to my agent.

Just gotta trim it down so it's not so overwhelming.

Believe it or not, I'm on AGM (and the internet) because much of the book is coming from stuff I've already written here.

You guys are at work, why can't I be?

Can understand why you would rather interview baseball players since you have played baseball. You know exactly what they are talking about when you interview them. I wouldn't even begin to interview a basketball player since I know nothing about basketball. I would ask some very unintelligent questions.

I saw my first major league game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in August of 1957 at Connie Mack stadium and saw future Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski and Maz hit one onto the roof in left field stands. Three years later he hit the game winner against the Yankees. My 93 year old dad said he remembers seeing Connie Mack.

Manny...hope the sale of the house goes through fast. My daughter and husband moved here to Knoxville but moved back three weeks later when they saw they couldn't pay two house notes of over $1000. Our house had been foreclosed so we had no house to go back to.
