HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

0-2 in Boston this year!

And how ridiculous was that Duke player stealing the ball with 1 second left? What a bunch of tools.

I heard that there were several blocks at the Duke defensive end. How would the game have gone if some of those blocking calls were actually called charges? The highlight I saw looked like a charge, not a block. If other plays were more of the same...

Did any of you actually see the game? I missed it and am curious.

It could not have possibly been worth 24 Duke points. The score was 26-23 at halftime, and Duke just stopped making shots.

First of all, I am a fan of Big East basketball, and guard play especially. I am glad that 'Nova won the game.

I agree that Blocking vs. Charges would probably not have affected the outcome of the game. However, I have seen some pretty strange things happen when players get in foul trouble. They get tentative at both ends of the court. Even worse, what if they have to sit. Will their back-ups be as effective? It is a waste of time, but I wonder... Would Duke have made more shots if they had better shot selection because 'nova was in foul trouble? Would 'nova have been more tentative with the penetration and opted for more jumpers if they knew that the officials were calling charges?

It's not just +24 points for Duke, it could be -16 points for 'Nova and +8 for Duke.

Ah well, who cares. It's Duke. Watchinmg the highlight tape indicates that Duke's trap wasn't working and Redding was finding the open guy consistently.

I saw a good chunk of the game. Duke was shooting like JV high school kids. From what I saw, there were the usual two or three block/charge calls that could go either way. But nowhere near enough to change the outcome of this game.

Let's not miss the moral of the story here: Duke sucks. Maybe they just have too many unathletic white kids on their team? Just a obvious stereotype here, but it's something to remember: You don't wins games with GPA

If you're "a basketball player", the only point of going to college is to get the year in since the NBA disregards equal opportunity employment.

Besides, if you're going to play basketball ON A SCHOLARSHIP, is getting an education truly your "REAL" priority? Or is saving a shitload of money the real priority? The real "point" of going to college is to get away with doing stupid shit.

Furthermore, ask Bill Gates or a boatload of other b/m-illionaires, philanthropists and social contributors if there's a point in going to college...

The sultan of Brunei didn't need no stinkin' college.

There's a BIG difference between a a person with an "education" and a piece of fancy paper that says they have one.

I'm not here to weigh morals, taut some merit of assumed prestige or debate the merits of how a higher education allows a person to feel more self-righteous, I only came here to say "Duke sucks"... meaning - the basketball team and all those who commiserate with said team specifically.

No, the Sultan of Brunei needed heritage.

Of course there is a difference between an "education" and a fancy piece of paper. But the former is more likely with the latter and most employers are going to ask for it. It's getting to the point that you better have two fancy pieces of paper if you want to be competitive.

And as Cheezer said, the exception doesn't prove the rule.

But you're right: Duke does suck.

The Sultan of Brunei did what now?

I know LOTS of people with fancy pieces of paper that are complete fools and utter dipshits. And I know lots of perceived scumbags that could rob, beat and possibly even rape even the haughtiest college graduate.

A college education isn't what it used to be. When you think about it, how many colleges shouldn't even exist?

I say: If there is an exception, HOW is it a rule?

I say: If there is an exception, HOW is it a rule? - Its not an absolute

And there are lots of "perceived scumbags" who are just that and lots of college grabs who are the opposite of "complete fools" and "utter dipshits"

In other news...Bill Gates is a college grad and was 3.5 years through (aka one semester short) before he left

JuT, I remember when you used to be cool... I really must stop living in the past.

Ignorance is bliss. But do you know what "bliss" really is? Or are you blissfully unaware of your own participation in ignorance?

Intelligence is beyond worthless unless it is applied properly. I'm saying that "smart" people are just as human as "dumb" people. Equally endowed and equally subdued. Intelligence isn't a feat any more than height or eye color. An education is not a feat - simply because no two "educations" (or life experiences) are equal. Anyone can master one thing but no one can master everything.

I'm sorry that I ever attempted to make a freeking joke in this forum. The internet used to be fun and here I am - once again, living in the past - Apparently there are lots of "intelligent" people that are so preoccupied with their own heads to welcome a miniscule quip of humor from someone who doesn't care how "smart" ANY of them are... there's no need to overthink things if you're so smart.

I guarantee you that my Intelligence Quotient is higher than 99% of the other meatbags on this planet and do you know where it's taken me? I made it through three years of college too; where was it taking me? Nowhere, because - so what? - there are more important things to me in this journey called life. Some people don't need to play other peoples society games to find meaning and fulfillment in life. Happiness is not a residue of intelligence, nor of education. In fact, it could be more easily argued that superior intelligence leads to more difficulties and unhappiness in life. Awareness means recognizing and understanding everything you wish you didn't have to as well. And no matter how "smart" you think you are, there's ALWAYS someone that's smarter... and once again it all boils down to.... so what?

Or as Homer Simpson said about Thomas Edison - "If he's so smart, how comes he's dead?"

As I simply stated: "Duke sucks". And "You don't win basketball games with GPA".

Manny is (unfortunately) correct. If you get a scholarship to play basketball, that's why you're brought to the school. Your admission to the school rides on your ability to play basketball, and therefore that is your primary focus. I remember about a year ago people were criticizing me (especially Kelsdad) for suggesting that we should accept these kids are at school to get ready for their career as a professional athlete, and offer courses/majors that they can use (ie communications, because these kids really should be taught by someone how to not sound like a complete dumbass). It just doesn't make sense to me. If a kid is going to go into astronomy, we give him access to an observatory, charts, a telescope, and tell him to go learn about the stars. If a kid is going to become a teacher, we tell them to go learn about the subject they're going to teach, and then we teach them specifics about teaching. Carpenters, engineers, economists, lawyers, broadcasters, journalists, doctors, and programmers all have majors/schools/classes designed to help them prepare for their future career, but for some reason, we tell athletes they have to go learn about something that has nothing with their future career.

I would agree if every college athlete went on to play professional sports, but I'm sure you've seen the NCAA commercials that tell us that is not the case. And even for the ones who do, there are no guarantees, and they would be well served to have other options. As for "learning about something that has nothing [to do] with their future career", that is up to them--they choose their own course of study. Besides, everyone takes courses that are not required for their future career, some required, some elective. That's what makes it a well-rounded educational experience--if you choose to take advantage of the opportunity. There may be reason to question the "real priority" of at least some college basketball players (Manny's original assertion), but let's not disparage the institution as a whole. Manny is fond of saying that "you get what you give". A similar philosophy could apply to higher education.
