"

Because Boston fans are smarter and better than regular fans! In fact, they’re so good, they can literally improve the athletic potential of the team! But that’s not all! Boston fans can also turn lead into gold! And heal by touch! And when they take a shit, little animated birds appear from out of nowhere to wipe and powder their asses clean!" - Sign this guy up!!

1st my apologies. 2nd my avatar was a failed attempt at one of those arm length photo's of my girlfriend and I. It was horribly off what I wanted but it was close enough to amusing for me to keep around.

Bill Simmons only outwardly projects out the extreme bias of every bandwagon jumping New England/Boston sports "fan". And he cannot quit his daily diatribes or Tom Brady will no longer allow him to peak up the skirts worn by Giselle.

Shouldn't that read:

Nope, I lost all respect for Simmons after he described how he goes about politics in this Jan. 9th "masterpiece":

Still reeling from Hillary's comeback in New Hampshire as a huge underdog Tuesday night. Amazing. I'm leaning toward voting for the Clintons (and really, they're a package deal) for three reasons:

1. They've been in the office before and made all their mistakes the first time around. Shades of Belichick learning from his Cleveland days. This time around, at least we know they'll take over the office with a game plan instead of limping through that first "What the hell am I doing?" year that seems to happen to every new president.

2. I miss Bill Clinton and want him back in my life on a regular basis for comedy and entertainment purposes. The thought of him closing down some hotel bar at 2 in the morning by telling two floozies, "How'd you ladies like to come back to the First Man's suite for a nightcap?" is just too good to pass up.

3. Obama smokes cigarettes. I can't get past this. Should the president be one of those guys who tells his staff, "Hold on, before we discuss this terrorist attack, lemme sneak outside for a butt"? Also, smokers are predisposed to telling white lies because everyone's always trying to get them to quit, so they're always saying stuff like, "Come on, I only have one or two a day," when they're really sneaking off behind garages and getting up at 2 a.m. pretending to get a glass of water and then plowing through a butt in 30 seconds. That makes me nervous. I don't want my president to have a life built around white lies. Unless he's totally open about the smoking ... then it's OK.

you act as though there isn't a very large portion of the voting public that doesn't do similar internal dileberations... the sad part is simmons probably influenced perhaps 3 and 4 hundred obama voters with that...

I'm unconcerned with who infulenced compared to my concern as a reader and fellow writer. I can't respect someone who makes decisions upon there need for Bill Clinton jokes and the myth and the Clinton's know what a "mistake" is or that they would ever admit or learn from one.

Moreover, if as you suggest, the majorty of our nations voting population makes decsions on their politics based on such superfacial things (which I think your mistaken on) then I'm deathly scared of where the the country is heading.

you don't think people aren't swayed by the opinions of others?

Bill O'Reiley has a show doesn't he?

and yes, i do think a portion of the US's voters are swayed by such superficial things...afterall, isn't Obama better than clinton (according to CNN) because he's much more likeable?

There's a difference between being inspired and motovated by someones pressence and ability to give a speech (being likeable) and voting for someone because they want more Bill Cilnton jokes.

I don't wanna get too political, but I think that someone's likeability is an insane way to vote...

For example, I'm adamantly fiscally conservative, but i'd consider myself pretty socially liberal...sorta of a liberatarian...

anyways, I listened to Mike Huckabee speak the other day and I was almost entranced...the man is a great speaker...i mean, i almost started liking him...

then i realized the guy thinks evolution is total bupkiss and doesn't even give it a little fair play...among other religious ideals...

but Huckabee's likeability became clear to me...if being the pres was just based on personality and likeability, then i'd consider obama and huckabee...

See I agree with that, people do vote for likeability. I felt that Simmons ideas in particular were inane and a great example of political shallowness that transcends into multiple facets of life. I can respect it in particular.

LA, you're only messed up if you take Simmons seriously. He's trying to be funny, failing sometimes, but he's not trying to be serious at all. So taking him seriously is problematic for those that do so.

See, I've actually been reading him long enough to know when he's shooting the shit and when you can read through the fog. When Simmons gets into list he's getting into something he cares about. (Refer to the Axel Foley list or anything refering to the Karate Kid or the 86 Celtics.)

You have a seperate issue with me, I know that but don't call me out as "seriously messed up in the head" in a common forum unless you plan to actually show me as messed up in the head. We disagree that's fine, but don't get personal, you don't want to go that way.

BTW, what the fuck is up with your avatar? Is that Phil Hellmuth or what, I've been wondering about that.

I can't stand Simmons. He think he comes off as the typical jackass talking head, but he's a good writer, and if I got offered his job, I'd take it in a heartbeat. When people spend their time just trying to bring down a famous person who they've never even talked to and probably wouldn't get the time of day from, it means that famous guy must be pretty successful and pretty good at what he does.

I don't love his columns like I used to, but I still read them on a regular basis. The problem is that he used to put a voice on one of the most downtrodden cities in America. When he first got started, the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics were all terrible.

A decade later, the Patriots have won 3 Super Bowls and are on the verge of a perfect season, the Red Sox have won 2 of the past 4 World Series (and are the prohibitive favorite for 2008), and the Celtics are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference for the first time in years. So yes, you can expect him to be cocky. After being beaten down by your favorite teams for so long, wouldn't you be?

The truth here is that while Bill Simmons was great writing about Boston sports when they were lousy, now that they've all been shoved down our throats by the various talking heads, we don't want to listen. Everybody's had enough of Boston's success.

That being said, I agree that it's ridiculous that he suggests the Colts begged out to avoid being embarrassed by the Patriots.
